Is there a specific color to paint the Rims?

Huy Sports fans, I noticed a lot of you have painted and restored your stock rims. After buying aftermarket rims that looked great and preformed horribly, I've decide to restore my stock wheels. Whats the name of the color Honda used for the 1970 KO?? On my Mustang they use a lot of Gun Metal Gray, but a vintage Ct? Any tried and true method would be appreciated.
Also is it easy to split the rims to get the tire off? Never tried that and I want to save money and dont want to pay the motorcycle shop to remove my tires. Thanks!

The original color was Cloud Silver...It is kinda pricey and there are some other colors and brands that are very close to it.

The cloud silver is still availible from Honda. The follow site as some good info on splitting the rims and also shows the cloud silver and list some alternative paint www.hondatrail70.com/

As others have mentioned, Honda Cloud Silver is still readily availble for $16.00 to $18.00 a spray can. Let me know if you need a link to order it.

Just finished up my front rim today. I used Duplicolor wheel paint WHP101. Jpct70 gave me the tip. Must say this is a great way to go. $5.00 A can and the color is real nice. My goal is to ride my bike again, not make it a show piece (need to keep reminding me of that fact).
Also shot the left and right eng cases and the underside of my fenders. If you want function over cost, give duplicolor a try

I prefer the Silver paint from Jeff @ minigunz.com. Has alot more sparkle to it than the Honda Cloud silver.

I'm definitely building this bike to ride and enjoy and not so much a show piece model.
I was wondering about Primer because I always use one and it seems to me that the wheels will need to be extra tough and to resist chipping but I'm wondering if it will affect the finish.
Anybody use primer for the wheels and if so what color? TIA

I'm planning to spray in May-June when it hits 100F, But wanna have it prepped and ready to paint.
I always cure my paint projects in the desert sun for 24hrs, I highly recommend it.

If you want it extra tough..Have the wheels, pegs and stand powder coated...That will stand up to any thrashing you have!!

Yeah powder-coating would be ideal but this year my motor bike budget has been slashed as I need to pay off 3K @ 14 % to Citibank and cant stand the thought off those A holes making interest money off me.

Its ok though I enjoy the do it yourself projects especially for minimal cost.
