Carb Cap Stripped... On Carb or Cap?

What typically strips, the carb cap or the threads on the carb itself?

To be clear, I'm talking about this part:

    Thanks!

Try a new cap. They're must cheaper. The cap is just hand tightened.

That's what I planned on doing, I think they're both made out of the same metal... new one should help even if both are stripped a bit.

Had the same problem, the threads on the carb cap and the carb did not appear to be stripped but carb cap would not tighten down, replaced the carb cab with a new one and still had the same problem. Ended up using a bread tie wrapped around the carb threads, maybe not the best solution but it worked and the tie is not visible.

What exactly did you do? I'm not sure what you mean by "bread tie wrapped around the carb threads," but I'd like to try it.

    Thanks,
    Adam

You could try to wrap the carburetor threads with serveral revolutions of teflon tape. That might be the cheapest solutions.

You know, a bread tie or twist tie off the top of a loaf of bread. I think it has a small wire running thru it. just made one wrap around the threads on top of the carb and then screwed the carb cap on. Should work like HG's telon tape but your threads won't be gummed up. I know it's less than innovating engineering but sometimes you gotta do, what you gotta do...
