    Making a new steering stop.

I was making a steering stop today and thought I'd post some pic's on how I would make one. I don't know if these are available or not. but this is easly done with a hack saw, a drill and files or grinder. I started with a piece of 1.750 roll bar tubing with a .1875 wall since it was a curve to start with it made the whole job easer.

this is the roll bar tubing

now we have layed it out where to cut

    008.jpg

I drill two small holes to make the corner cuts easer

Now it's saw time, you might want to use a new blade so it doesn't walk on you

    here's the roughed out part

    after a little shaping

almost there I'll add the last pic tommorow

Nice work. Have you welded it on yet? I'd like to see picture of that too.

Hey, Grant I thought you had a great idea about using the tubing instead of flat stock like I did. I made one like yours but I couldn't get an offset in stock that thick. So I'm sittin around scratchin my head and thought about this. I sliced two pieces off the tubing one 1/2" and the other 5/8ths. Then I took the slices and cut pieces out of the circles. The 1/2" slice I cut 1" pieces out of it got 5 and the 5/8th piece I cut 5/8" pieces out of it. The I set the 5/8 piece on top of the 1/2" and welded the inside and out. I had to make a little fixture to hold the 5/8 piece so it would just barely over lap the other. This way I was able to get the 3/16 offset. Once I figured it all out I made 5 in about 30 min. If anybody wants one I only needed one. Send me $1.00 and your address, PM for mine.

    Mike

OK it took longer to add the pics. than it did to make them.

Hey Mike Great idea! thats fast too. After I finished I put a little heat to it. layed it on the bed of the vise with a taller piece in front and clamped it down while still hot and bent the off-set into it. but your idea sounds faster if somebody was going to make more then one. Bill I'm not the one welding this one in But I'll ask for pic's when it's done, and I'm going to post the last pic I took.

now I remember that they were selling these on ebay. but yours seems to be better/thicker steel. I would have never thought of using roundbar. great work

The ones I saw on ebay were for a z50 and they are lighter.
