    New Battery, lights still dim.

I just replaced my old 6v battery with a new Yuama one. I charged it for 3 hours on the 6v/12a setting on my charger. I put it in and viola', lights still dim and blinkers don't blink.

The light got bright for just a moment when I switched to high beam and all seamed well but then it went back to dim. As long as I reved the crap out of it it was just o.k.

I also noticed the turn indicator light on the speedo now does not work. Any suggestions??

12 amps is a pretty heavy current, about twice what your bike's charging circuit puts out.The battery may have only taken a surface charge. Dinky batteries do best with a slow charge - 500ma to 1.2a.

Start with the easiest test. Connect your 6V/12a charger in place of the battery and see if the lights all work properly. If they do, then the battery is low, problem solved. If the problem still exists, then you've got more detective work to do.

Thank, I can't do it that way with the charger I have but I am going to try to borrow a tester.

Also check your grounds. If you've got a bad or weak ground, it will do the same thing.

Yeah, you need to verify the result of the charging or else you are just guessing. Let us know once you get the meter.

Thanks for all the help. sorry took so long..

I think I just boiled the battery alive. I rode it today and it acts like it wants to charge. When I had it on the charger before, the thing was bubbling and hot to the touch. Guess I need another new battery!!

I also went to Honda to get a tune-up kit and they said they don't even have a spark plug that fits the CT70! Geez!

Guess I need to go on-line to find a tuneup kit. It runs strong but I 'm sure a new plug, condenser and (what the hell?) points couldn't hurt. It only has 1,500 miles on it.

A new battery can often survive one beating, so it's possible that your luck hasn't run out on this one. Not sure if you should try refilling with electrolyte or distilled water at this point. Perhaps someone here has a better memory. One thing you should get is a 500ma-1.2a 6v charger. 10amps will cook these tiny batteries in short order.

An NGK C7HS or Nippon Denso U22FS plug is what you need. NGK plugs are about as hard to find as opinions. Dratv is sure to have the correct plug and will get it to you in a few days. Honda corporation does an excellent job with parts support, but your local Honda dealer is more interested in selling financing (like any other dealership these days) .

sounds like your regulator rectafier is out, the orange looking thing back behind the battery, I had the same problem you have - Hondanuts.com had them in stock and it fixed the problem.

They also have the spark plugs.
