Question Only click here if you have used SEAFOAM in your CT

OK I just bought some SEAFOAM today, then when i went to the gas station to fill up, I couldnt resist to put some in the tank, so I put in four capfuls (approx 40ml). The gas turned nice and blue.

I read up on the product literature and the can and it says you have to add 1/3 can in the crankcase oil (now assuming that they are meaning a 'standard' car engine)

    • So now I am thinking, a normal car engine takes four quarts ( 946ml x 4 = 3784ml.
    • 1/3 of a can is 157.51ml (473 x .33333)
    • 157.51 / 3784 = 0.04 = 4% Therefore 4% of what is included in the oil is therfore Seafoam (SF)
    • Now in my LIfan 110cc engine regquires 700ml in its crankcase, therefore: 700 x 4% = 28ml

So if my calculations are correct (check them) , I should add 28ml of SF in the crankcase?

my next thread is how I should add SF into the carb...

    Thanks

If you do it right, your bike should look like this:

I clicked out of curiosity, and won't be using the stuff.

so i should feed it into the fuel filter? from what I can see there is only one tube to feed the SF on the CT.

All the smoke what is that coming out the exhaust? carbon?

it cleans out carbs, dissolves carbon, can be used as fuel stabil lots of good thigns

so i guess I need a transparent tube and connect it to the carb

    Hey Ontario

Your bike needs valve lash adjustement. Given the state of the overall build, I would take your carb off and clean the entire thing.

You are starting from a sketchy build... at best

buying mechanic in a bottle is only going to help a known, well built machine that has been sitting. Good running bikes don't get excessive carbon deposits or sour gas.

You need to go through your carb thoroughly as a starting point. From there additives wont hurt if the bike has been sitting over the winter

Treat the actual problem, not the symptoms of the problems

treating symptoms is a never ending circle. If you bike runs good, you don't need seafoam

drain the fuel before the winter when you store it and you should be fine

I'm sure seafoam is a good product, but if your bike is running properly, you should not need it at all

I only use Seafoam in the Carbs of engines that run and I think the carb could use some mouthwash. Works good when added to the gas tank and you can run the engine for some time for it to work.

    cleanup

Cleaning up the carb and fuel lines and dumping out the gas tank, IMO, are the best solutions. After a while of the bike running correctly, a lot of the carbon buildup with flake off and burn out through normal combustion.

The only mechanic in a bottle I have ever used was a sludge removal product made by STP that you put in your oil and idle the motor for 15 minutes and then drop the oil. I did that with my jeep and plenty of sludge came out. However, in all honesty, it didn't run any better. If I want to clean out a CT, I'll take the two hours and break the motor down, clean it, and reassemble it.
