    Rear brake problem

Finishing up a rebuild on what I thought was a 1974 ct 70. While attempting to assemble the back brake pedal I noticed there was no stud coming out of the frame to hold the cable to operate the back brakes from the handle bars. Did some of these frames not come with the back break being operated with the hand levers. Should I just assemble the bike without them. Kinda stuck.

Oops, yeah that year they started the "no rear handlebar brake" idea. Still kinda surprised that stud is gone/removed.

Yep, Flash nailed it. K0 - K2 frames all had them, including H-models. ST70 (and 50) frames never had them. It was probably a simple & painless cost-cutting move for Honda to eliminate this detail difference from the CT frame, along with the LH rear brake lever, beginning with K3 production. That dual-control rear brake setup always struck me as a bit odd, anyway.

On my K1 I took the rear brake handle control off. It's pointless. Now I have one less thing to maintain. Also, I'm so used to that being a clutch, I don't want to pull that in at the wrong time when I'm riding.

Some early model year K3's actually had a rear brake hand lever. Honda switched over to no hand brake about midyear on the K3's.

It would definitely make the early model K3's unique and rare, especially a one year only Rivera Blue model!!

I'm not really into that particular model but i was reading on another site that those are the rare ones that the collectors are wanting right now.

I'm glad you said that...There is/was one at the salvage yard that I go to and it has the rear brake hand lever....I guess I should go back!
