Trickle Charger question 12Vcharger for 6V battery ok??

I have a ct7o with a one year old yaesu 6V battery that has died over winter and i now need to charge it. I was always told i would need a trickle charger to keep all electric stuff working. My question is will a 12V charger be ok to charge the 6 volt battery or will it fry it??? most chargers are 12V and there are very few that are 6V. what do i do??? will this one from Canadian Tire for 19.00 work??
thanks and happy riding this summer!!!

It needs to be a 6 volt charger. They are out there if you use a internet search site. DR ATV sells the connectors terminals to make an adapter to fit your battery.

Do Not connect a 12V charger to a 6V Battery, especially an automotive charger. Chances are pretty good the little 6V will explode because car chargers put out Bo-Koo Amperage.

Here's How I made a trickle charger; I took a southwestern bell phone power supply. It puts out 9V @ 200mA but when you connect it to a 6V battery since its not regulated, voltage drops to 7V when connected to the 6V.
At 200mA it will trickle charge in several hours, the extra volt wont hurt it.....

This is what I did, not saying u should try it ..... but, I have a digital multi-meter to monitor the voltage and make sure polarity is correct (+ to positive - to neg) But I'd recommend getting a store bought 6V charger, I'm just frugal

Just buy a 12v/6v combo charger at a parts store or Walmart...Make sure and get the automatic 1amp-1.5amp trickle charge/maintainer. Never hook a 12v only charger to a 6v battery. They are not expensive and typially sold as a motorcycle battery charger.
