    71 CT throttle cable

    I have a 71 CT with a 88cc and 18mm carb. Question is isnt the throttle suppose to return? I have heard that its hard to get them to return. Is the cable bad? the spring I have in the carb is a very strong spring. I love the looks of the hidden wires and dont want to add an aftermarket throttle. Any options? Mods?

    found an old post somone did alittle grinding ill have to give it a shot. For the most part my cables probley fine then.

    Thats right...Rarely do they return on their own...even the ones from my childhood didn't.

    Very common. A stronger return spring or stretching the current spring might help.

    Someone posted a fix here about putting a compresion spring inside the handle to help return the throttle when using the orginal setup.

    Don't recall seeing that post but it's a damn good idea. A stronger return spring at the carb and some cleaning/lubing & tweaking of the twist grip assembly should be enough to realize a self-returning throttle. If your vinyl grips are newer, then you'll have to trim the inner edge on the RH grip...and live with some rattling when your hand isn't on the grip.
