Are these considerd numbers matching?

There's no doubt, in my mind, that is the original engine. The chance of another H engine coming along within 400 #'s apart, ending up in your bike, is pretty remote. They're usually a few hundred apart anyway. I am curious though to know what the head casting #'s are. My original K1 3speed's head #'s are E10 3. No one seems to know exactly what they mean.

I bought a CT70 to restore. It's pretty rough but mostly complete. Serial numbers match exactly.
VIN 253868 on frame and neck label
CT70E-253868 on engine LH case.
How rare is that?

i've heard of it before, but never seen it on any bike i happen to own. and that's not even a low serial number… it seems the engine number is usually a bit higher number than the frame number… maybe some engines didn't make the 'cut' or quality inspection, and they got mothballed or recycled… just a theory. i'm sure there's no order to it, other than the explanation of someone who was in the factory at the time.

Honda was spitting out bikes like no tomorrow. When an engine defect would come up, they would simply send it back and grab the next one in line to keep things rolling. The Z50's have a much wider variance. The big bikes or automobiles would be a different production set up. Possibly impractical/illegal to do with those.

Can u be 2000 off on serial number and be original K2 Z50 1971?
I read on another site that these K2 builds were all over the place.

Sam I asked that question a couple months ago and received the response that they are all over the place. My K2 is way off also.

Very common for K2s to be as much as 20,000 parts. Mine was something like 28xxxx and 30xxxx. Even more confusing are K3 and K4 z50s with non corresponding 7 digits frames, and 6 digit engines.

Sam,the dealer put the serial numbers of the frame and engine on the receipt when my mom and dad bought my new 50 k1. The frame is 5559 higher than the engine. If it wasn't in my possession since new and no paperwork,who would think it would be possible that these two have always been together. I like to think the new kid on the job that was told to go get a pallet of engines got them from the wrong end :3: My MR 250,a low production 1 year only model,has the engine 1 number higher than it's frame. So knowing this and seeing 70 H models being close it sure tells us that the lower the production model the closer they can be but we don't know exactly why or what causes them to be so far off as the numbers of production is increased. Replacement frames are not numbered nor are replacement cases and I think but not sure that replacement engines are not numbered either so any of these different scenarios would not affect engines and frames on the line. We will most likely never know for sure.

My daughter's Z50K2 numbers are way off too. From what I can tell, I'm pretty sure it has the original engine.

Revisiting this thread relative to z50k2's....sam 2,000 apart would be considered close for a k2 bike. Another example was justed listed by classic seller on ebay.....frame 279278, engine 263581, this type of spread is very common for a z50k2.
