2017 Honda Grom avail this August!

So the 2017 Groms have some changes this year, you can read all about it. A couple are a relocated muffler and LED Headlights. The price is still the same. I kinda wish they would have offered it in Green though! Here's a 5 part Vidio commercial advertisement and some other links.

I do like the blue display. Just some observations, My 108cc stroker has more power than my Grom. Top speed is a mile or 2 higher on the Grom but the 108 has way more torque in 1 thru 3 gears, Neck snapping. Grom 4th gear is more useable. The stroker can do wheelies in first, the Grom cant without beating it up. Overall riding is more refined on the Grom and more comfortable it is street friendly. The 108 is more unrefined in its gearing and is more work in the gears. Soooooo, Groms are great to leisurely cruise around on but are no faster than a well tuned 108. The Grom is completely stock.

Sorry, but I do not like the styling. To me, it looks like a patch-work of angles cobbled together and in addition, the look of the rear side view makes me think the rear wheel is too small or the rider is in the process of being ejected by the seat. Too much open area between the tire and tail.

Yep, were a long way from Kansas on this one for sure but it is the year 2016 and all newer sport bikes are mostly looking like something right out of star wars these days. IMO, it starts to grow on you in no time...

So much so that even Kawasaki came out with their version of the immensely popular Honda Grom. The Kawasaki's Z125 Pro. To me it looks like a Grom clone but Kawi wants part of this red hot market. Here's a cool Video of both bikes cruising SanFran.

Kawasaki needs to add a few more colors. It is $200 cheaper than the Grom, if that makes a difference. Everything else is virtually the same. The weights are within one pound of each other. Do they sell a lot of these?

Yeah, there's already a waiting list to get one... There is kind of a rumor that there are some new never sold 2015 Groms in a warehouse that the dealers may price cheaper than the new 2017. I read that at a few sites on the web, prob bS but who knows:16:

Actually, Kawasaki beat Honda to the punch by a solid decade+ with the KSR110. We never got that bike here in los Estados Unidos. That kwaker has better OEM suspension, the MSX125/Grom the better engine. I was pleasantly surprised when we got this Honda, never thought that would happen. Expect sales to really take off when gasoline tops $4.50 once again.

I agree with both of you on the aesthetics. It does little for me but, it is 2016 and I accept the fact that I'm an opinionated old who grew up in another era. The visual cues aren't really bad for their era. Coming up with something as iconic as the CT70 is a very tall order...


I had planned to add a Grom to the stable. Stock power is adequate, nothing wrong with a reliable 60mph bike. It's more of a stomper than the 110 Nice, a scant 0.2hp difference between them. The e-start-only and lack of versatility were negatives, but not strictly deal-breakers. Having already "out-Grommed the Grom" with the CT70 platform, stepping-down wasn't going to fly. Suspension upgrades, needed to match what I already have, would add north of 4-figures, eliminating any cost advantage. With the up-front-cost playing field leveled, what's left? The answer is rider comfort, as in "can you really use the thing?". Rider position is anything but comfy and the seat is a ball-buster. Can't, or more accurately don't want to, imagine what I'd feel like after a 100-200 mile afternoon ride. With time, talent and bucks, I reckon the seat could be improved...though it's unclear how far that could be taken, due to inherent limitations of the design. Rider position, on the other hand, is what it is. So, it largely boils down to a choice between mini-crotch-rocket vs mini-tourer. Still good to see this model succeeding in the marketplace, even if it's not my cuppa Kona :57:

I cant disagree with your thoughts on the seat comfort. But I can say that after a 240 or so spin around the block, It wasn't too bad. I did complete an iron butt ride so I maybe not average when talking comfort. One of the first things I did was purchase an aftermarket seat for the Grom. I may have used it twice. Stock went back on and after 1000 miles I no longer think stock is uncomfortable. In fact It has grown on me and I wouldn't change it. It is the bike of choice for me when I want to ride western NC roads.

So after some more research I found out that for 2017 they changed the seat for more comfort! They also changed the handle bars for a more confy riding position. I think they are higher.

The other changes are: a better fuel tank cap, LED head lights, lower muffler mount and folding flip key. The keyed seat latch is a better design and bike covers were updated too.

I actually called a sales dealer here in town and he said they arrive sometime in August, they're the same price and your best bet is to put 500 bucks down and you can get your choice O colors, mine would be red. The guy said they still have 2015 Groms available. Maybe they'd deal on them?

Might ponder making a move in Dec . Could make a perfect affordable mid-life crisis gift as spending that amount is Ok with me, you only live once!:4::19:

I think you're right. The only con game with more subterfuge is housing. Big-ticket items draw parasites like flies to And the new vehicle market is second only to housing. "MSRP", "Destination charges", "dealer prep" etc...all nothing more than junk fees, intended to confuse the uninformed. A two-year-old machine on the showroom floor isn't a sign of a product with sale numbers setting the world on fire, is it? It'll be worth ~2/3 original "MSRP", as soon as you sign the papers. They're offering a $500 "discount":21: "MSRP" is a bullshit term..."manufacturer's suggested retail price". That's NOT what they paid for it. Sounds official, though, doesn't it? I'd want to see $1000 difference, on the bottom line, minimum. Your $2500 OTD figure sounds about right, imo.

Go in negotiating hard, cash in hand, ready to walk if you don't get the deal you want. Expect a phone call shortly thereafter, along the lines of "my manager said...we usually aren't able to..."

2015 model vs 2017 model...vs what can be achieved by investing the same amount into your daily rider...the bottom line spread is small. Make your decision based on what would be the most satisfying machine - to you. That 2015 specimen is going to be a $1900 bike, as soon as you sign the papers. The mount paid, in excess of that amount, would be for the privileged of getting it with, essentially, zero miles.

Just when I thought I liked the Kawi more they updated the little bike. The funny thing is I also see a lot of dealers in Cali trying to blow the 2015's out while on CL I see people trying to sell their used ones for almost 4gs. What do they think these are CT70's?

I went to see the 2015 Grom over the weekend to get my first hand view of the machine. They had a Red one on the floor and a salesman quickly told me that "that ones sold but maybe we can find another one."

Ahh... let the games began lol, obviously didn't know that I had been quoted a price already for a Red 15' Grom.:10:

Anyway my take on the bike is that it's built to the same standard as the other bigger motorcycles and that is very well built. With out going into a lot of detail, I'll just say I am impressed. This isn't a cute small bike thought up for a marketing gimmick, it's a real motorcycle.

Although with the upgrades for the 17', I just don't see getting the older model one. The color of the floor bike was 'Red' and the new 2017'color offered is 'Pearl Red' and there is a difference. the pearl reminds me of Ford's signal flair red ie. my 66 Stang color.

I'm gonna check back in December and see what Saint Nick can do, (buying a bike as soon as they are released= more$$) till then I want to clear some small debt, so I can pay most (2/3) in cash, but will see, right now it's just talk.:blabla::38:

I saw the new GROM today at a local Honda shop. It was white. tag said 3499. I think I am happy I got mine when I did. The relocated exhaust leaves a big gap under the seat. Also the catalytic converter is larger and flattened beneath the motor. The headlight was another obvious. Some folks run out to buy the newer version and others run out to get one of the few remaining of the old body style; count me as one of the latter. There were 2 red GROMS 2015? clearance tagged 2899. The new models still retain the overall GROM look

$3,500.oo is a chunk of change. For what I would use the bike for, like recreational weekend driving, it's just doesn't justify the doe. I'd rather pay off my Citi bank card and see what kinda deal I can get in 2017. Who knows if they offer the older model at a real deal price, maybe I'd consider doing that. Getting a the New bike off the floor...Well I'm in no hurry. Who knows what deals are offered this time next summer....

I understand that the Grom is based on our favorite little 49-72cc little engine, but I will not be interested in buying one. Now, THIS is what I am into buying when it comes out. 750cc 55 horsepower Honda ADV!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should be out sometime in 2017!!! I don't care who's or what hi performance engine you put in a CT70 it WILL NOT beat this scooter! Oh, and it is on and off road, just like a CT! The Grom is not a dual purpose machine.

Some years back when I was into dirtbikes, I bought new Honda. DONT let them talk you into extended warranties. They already come with a 6month one. Ride it regularly, service it by the book, break it in properly, and you'll get the bugs(if any) worked out.
