The overall color balance, as it exists here & now, is a pretty good compromise. Much more white and retinal fatigue would be a problem. OTOH, any darker and it's going to be hard for some to read.

Aesthetics are largely subjective. That said, being brutally honest, the new logo :thumb: the expanded earth-tone palette :31: doesn't cut it.

I really like the abundant white space you have for the bulk of the content areas. The mobile-aware framework is awesome. I'll miss the one stop shopping and notifications that TT provided, but it sounds like the change was inevitable. Other mini forums I'm on are way behind the times.

Just throwing this out there since the question was asked...I'm not much for earth tones, browns especially, and neither were Honda minis. I think I'd match one of the traditional colors. To me, nothing is finer or more representative than the deep K0 red with black and white accents but there are plenty of candy colors to try. I also think of the iconic HONDA font. When you see that wide font, you think Honda, even if it's just the letter H. I know that was part of the old logo, but maybe there's a way to keep that feature and give it a fresh new twist. I'd suggest using elements with a look and feel that pays tribute to the bikes we love. Aside from my main job as a systems engineer, I've done some graphic design and web design work on the side. If you like, I could play around with some options. That being said, I can tell you put a lot of thought and work into the new one and there are aspects of it I think are nice. If you stayed with that futuristic font, what if the right side of the H had a more triangular return resembling the fork ear of a Honda bike?

At the end of the day, I'm thrilled you have created this place and allowed us to use it. Colors and logos are secondary and your call. I'm just happy to be here. I appreciate all the hard work you have done. You have clearly demonstrated that keeping up to date on the ever changing Internet software landscape is a never ending job and a huge amount of work. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Notifications of Thread Updates

I've been playing around in this new Xenforo environment and liking it more and more. I wasn't getting email notifications of thread updates and noticed I had to go into my watched thread list and turn on email notifications. It looks like all imported watched threads have notifications disabled by default.

I think this is the correct process to enable them. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

1. Click Menu > Watched Threads > Show all watched threads.
2. Check the ones you want to get email notifications on.
3. At the bottom, click the "With selected" drop-down and choose "Enable email notification" and click Go.

The threads in your watch list with notification enabled will now show "email" in their status on the right hand side.

This is also where you unwatch threads or turn off notifications...or so it appears to be.

Now if someone will just respond or add to this thread, I'll know it's working. (y)

Meh, I'm here... still getting used to the new look myself, but it seems okay, I'm just not big on sudden changes because I'm an old school rogue dinosaur, LOL.

I hate change, but I got notified of your message. Yay! Success!

Oldminibikes forum went through a major redesign a couple of years ago and I still hate it. The new look and mobile functionality here is SO much better. They're still stuck on the tired old system but somehow managed to make it even worse. I'm kind of excited not to have to look at tapatalk orange anymore.

The more I get used to where things are, the better this becomes...but I'm primarily a mobile user. One thing I DON'T like is the overwhelming number of AD windows, but I suppose that's the price to pay unless annual membership fees become required.

I have a hard time keeping up with technology, though I DID recently purchase a new tablet and new laptop, both with Windows 10... seems like whenever I FINALLY get used to a system or platform, they go and change it. Meh, one day I'll be dead and none of this will matter, unless I show up at the Gates o' Hell and a computer test is required, LOL.

P.S. After I fail the test, I suppose I'll wind up in limbo, somewhere over there in Metro Jersey... with OLD CT as a neighbor, LOL.

Did we get a new logo this morning?

Yep, I updated it last night.. Took some advice from the members here and created something a little more Honda, and a little less futuristic. Introduced the late 1960's Honda wings, with a Honda Trail 70 badge, along with a handful of toned-down Honda colors, and of course, the return of the classic Honda font.

Love the wings, the font, and the trail 70 shape of the badge! I'm still not fond of the the poop brown, but that's just me. I've never been a fan of brown. I guess I could call it "trail" or "dirt" brown. ;) The rainbow effect... I'm on the fence, but I love the use of original colors. Regardless, it's a great improvement and I appreciate all you do to create and run this site. It's a huge, expensive, and often under appreciated job. You offer more features for free than other forums offer only to paid annual membership users. My donation is on its way!

Many thanks for the donation Wade, much appreciated! I'm not a fan of the "trail" brown either.. I will be addressing the page background design and color next. The style default is a very light gray (almost white) background, and when viewing on desktop, all the white is a bit overwhelming. This isn't a problem on the mobile and tablet layouts, as most of the background is cropped. The 'rainbow' badge design using the original colors may be replaced with a solid color in the future, but it is starting to grow on me..

I'm happy to donate. The help the members here have provided me is worth every penny.

I was trying to avoid work today and messing around with your images. Here are some quick and dirty variants I was experimenting with. The badge is similar to the all black/silver one from the KO series. The background colors are candy ruby red, cloud silver, and candy sapphire blue. If your system lets you tile a background image, the chip images on ct70.com look way cooler when it comes to candy color. I'm not sure how seamlessly they would tile. http://www.ct70paint.com/paint-chips.html

Again, just playing around here, not trying to tell you how to do things. You mentioned the background and possible solid colors on the badge, thus these experiments. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've always been partial to candy red but I know on computer screens, big globs of red aren't always good practice. For those Topaz, Gold and Emerald fans...sorry, I just didn't get around to it before I had to run to a meeting. I don't think golds and yellows translate well onto the screen, but the other colors probably would.

FWIW...the dark red background looks a bit dingy on my monitor. The light gray works best, imo, it "breathes" and focuses attention on the site content. You're never going to please everybody...no one can.

The sidebadge is okay, in either iteration, though the solid black might be the better choice...because it's more iconic (literally). The previous LH font took a little getting used to but had more of a post-contemporary look that struck me as combining the vintage with the current. Don't know that that's necessarily the best approach, with vintage-classic machinery and a membership to which that description also applies.

I have a feeling that the final formatting (of which, color scheme is a part) is going to take some trial & error, if a consensus is the goal. Just the fact that this is being discussed, in a civil & consultative manner is worth a thumbs-up.(y)

one thing that is kinda driving me nuts! :coffee:

I use the "New Post" link to see whats new... when I reply to a new post and then click on the "New Post" link again that Thread is gone from that search.... I know why, because the system marks it as read by me so it thinks I dont need to see it again until a new reply. But can this be fixed so the Thread I just replied to shows up again in that "New Post" search ?

As you mentioned, this is working as designed; once a user has viewed the latest content of the thread, the system considers it 'READ'. It is just as easy to select 'Recent Posts' on the same page, after replying to said thread.. Or view your personal feed activity here: https://lilhonda.com/index.php?account/news-feed

I'm not sure that this is something that I can change, but I'll look into it. (y)
