New guy with k0 questions

Hey guys, I got a k0 that's been beat to death. I'm trying to bring it back to its glory days but have a few questions. Do they make a replacement toggle switch lever? I have the switch but the lever is broke. I also need a petcock fuel filter. Mine seems to be soldered on with no plastic housing so not sure if they are replaceable. Thanks for any info.

Welcome aboard

Need to provide us with some more information. K0 is the designation associated with a first year model of a particular bike. What type of bike do you have?

I'm still new to these bikes but so far I know it's a 68 straight guard. Not sure the vin because along the road it was stolen and someone chiseled the number. What else distinguishes them?

Welcome to lilHonda tomz50.

I guess you already know that the correct toggle switch for your K0 is a high dollar part. I don't think I've ever seen a replacement lever for them. I read once of someone who was a jeweler...or maybe had a jeweler make one. I don't remember what the material was that they used to make it out of. If you can get the remains out of yours, that would be a good start. Of course if you look around you can probably make a generic toggle switch work...a whole new switch I mean. Used and NOS are available, but again, expensive.

Maybe post a picture of your petcock. I think it should have a brass nipple that a plastic filter slides onto. The filters are available. Sometimes the original filter will get stuck in the tank, but still be OK...have you looked?
If you buy a new filter, you may need to drill it out a smidge to get it to fit on the early style petcock.

You can show us some pics of your bike too...we love those, and sometimes we can see something notable that might help you.

Thanks for the info. The bike is all apart now but I have a pic without the tank and seat. It's been ridden hard hence the gussets haha. Cool thing about the bike is he put a 70cc cylinder, had a cam made, wedded the manifold for a 160 carb, and cut the valve reliefs on the piston by hand back in the 70's. Kinda Resto rod style.

Im not seeing any "gussets" that don't belong on your frame. That bike looks really good to my eye.
The left side, flywheel cover that you have there is a high dollar part. One year only...the first year. Protect it if it's unbroken...handlebars too.
Your Petcock looks good too. You just need a filter for it, and you WILL need to drill out the opening to get the filter to fit. Drill the plastic filter that is.

Looks like a good bike to me. It should be a fun project.

There are gussets are the rear i can show when I get the frame back. I read the original bars didn't have cable holes? These do I believe so not sure if they're original.

The right side bar has the hole for the throttle cable to exit. The left bar had no holes.
The right bar hole was on the inside of the bar. All newer versions of that bar, the exit hole is on the back/rider side of the bar.

Your footpeg bracket is not correct for your bike...looks like a 72/K3 bracket setup.

kirrbby I thought so to but look directly under the seat to frame mounts and you can see them. Who ever did them did a nice job.

I'll have to start a new post to make sure I understand the sequence of the covers for both the z50 and CT70

One piece two piece etc.

I saw a blog where a guy made his own plastic switch lever. Does anyone know him or where I could possibly get one? Thanks for the info

Do you have the white brake levers on the handlebars? Do you have the white bar grips? If both yes those are also high value parts. I have seen some toggle switches on ebay in the $150 range and then some in the $300 range.

Looks like you have some good bones there. This is one i picked up not too long ago. Do you plan on painting it back to original colors?

No I don't have the grips or the levers. I do have the stock seat but it's torn in the rear. Yes I plan to go back to yellow/white like yours. That was another question I had, I've seen some tanks that look ivory and some that are bright white. Do you guys know what is the original white?

You want an ivory white tank on top with yellow on bottom. Bright white was used in k2 models like on my profile pic. You can get repop white lever and repop white grips.

Awesome thank you. What's your opinion on keeping original handlebars? These are the shorter version, a little tweaked, and deep scratches in the chrome. Get repo bars or I could powder coat them "chrome"? Not sure What route to go.

Really depends on your preference. If you aren't worried about it being 100% correct/original then you can get good repop bars for $100. There are a few less expensive but I don't have experience with them. Depends how tweaked they are I guess. They don't look too bad from your pic. Ask around at shops and see how much it would cost to rechrome them.

I just didn't know if they are rare or it's not that big of deal to swap them. They aren't bent bad so I could fix them easily but I'm not really looking to spend $250 to re chrome them.
