The thought of a brand new Z50 is appealing to me.
The thought of a brand new "state of the art" 125cc street legal(actually...worthy) Z50 with EFI, 12" wheels, real lighting and suspension with disc brakes, is VERY appealing to me.

I'll be interested to hear how snappy the engine runs this bike. I know the bike is bigger than what I'm imagining, and I know the Grom is pretty tame off the showroom floor.
I'm also pretty sure that I could build a pretty fast, fun, and safe Z50 for $4000 + my "free" labor, and it would have folding bars :)

Question is...WILL I ever build that bike. Shure would be easy to just pick one up at the dealership.

I hope it's fast, and a blast. Then... I'll want one.

Did you get ABS?

Far as I know the red one only comes in ABS. I told the dealership if I had the option, I didn't want it.

I have a grom that I've put close to 10K on. Bet it will have close to the same power. I will know 2 minutes after riding lol.

You're looking at 235 lbs., about 9 h.p. and a 50 m.p.h. top speed.
I surprised that's all it will do. Was that an official speed? The grom is rated for 56, but I hit 60 on it all day.

To ugly for me...no thanks. Call me old or whatever but I like the classic look of the 50/70 from the 70's.

There are advantages to both eras of machinery...disadvantages, too. You pays your money and takes your pick. I'm with you on this one...mo`better to just build a classic era machine into exactly what you want, easier to insure, too. 45+ year old bikes are "classics" and insurable as such. Anything made in the 21st century is still too new to be anything but a "depreciating asset". That said, this new Monkey is okay, aesthetically, IMO...except for that goofy airbox.

As for ABS on a sub-100mph bike...can you say "tantamount to an appendix transplant"?o_O If you need ABS, then wtf are you doing on two wheels?

But would it have Honda financing and a warranty ? I have to sell some stuff to make room 'cuz the Mrs wants a Cub too. I'm pumped I want one,but as crazy as it sounds, I'm going to wait until 11-29-19. Supply should be good by then, with no markup and it would be 50 years to the day my dad bought my 50

i sat on both of them. the passport is as comfortable as the original with similiar seating. I'd consider one if I needed a scooter for local riding. The monkey is NOT comfortable to me IMO. It feels just like sitting on a ST90 but with a lower handlebar position and the bars too far back. Powerwise, it is the same as a grom....its the same engine. I expect that there will be a huge aftermarket for the bike and you'll be able to do whatever you want to it...i'd assume someone will make folding bars.

4000 is A LOT of cash to lay down for this. I can build a killer vintage bike for a little more than half of that. if I were going to buy one, I'd put it away and never touch it...and 50 years later it might be worth something. However, for the same money, I can buy a damn near original z50 or ct70 and put that away and guarantee it would be worth much more later.

I was at the Smokey MOuntain crawl, and my $3k custom build absolutely destroyed every grom it encountered other than the ones with the cbr250r engine transplants. that includes the finbro 200cc versions...they were sniffing my exhaust.... so, don't look to this bike as something to build a speed demon from. It really is just a put put bike that will get you some looks and be pretty forgiving as you learn to ride it. .

It very well may be,but if thats what the thoughts were 50 years ago where would we be today? My 50 and 70 are already worth way more than what was paid for them, plus I don't have 50 years left. For me it's more of a nostalgia thing,I'm one of a handful of guy's here who can remember and throw a leg over the exact same bike that started it all for me 49 years ago. Honda will sell a bunch

Coffee shop is right next to my Honda dealer so today while the Mrs went in I walked over to the dealer. He said both the Monkey and the Cub should be in around October but who knows were his exact words. Also said he has alot of deposits but would not actually say how many. Did not really learn anything we didn't already know.
