Congrats! A rare 4 speed HK1.
That HL bucket looks original but it's in a K0 style instead of the single headlight i usually see. Never really noticed that before.(y)

Looks like a 3 speed K0 frame with a HK0 engine and a K1 front end and a K0 headlight bucket. Lots of different parts. Hope you didn't think its all original.

X2 here. At least somene saved him the trouble of upgrading the forks.
Would really like to see the engine and frame numbers.

Thats great that it has a title! You got lucky on that one.
I'm sure you will enjoy it, as they really are fun little bikes. Could you please post pics of the engine numbers, head numbers, and the frame tag numbers?

VIN & engine SN will tell you what you have. Probably a K0 (or HK0) retrofitted with a K1 front end. That's a nice combo, 4-speed manual and real front suspension. Essentially, being assembled from OEM parts it could be considered a phantom model. There's nothing wrong with building such a machine...especially if you intend to ride it. I see a lot of cheesy "repairs", all of which can be redone the right way.

Ultimately this bike could be turned into whatever you want, including a show bike, rat bike, restomod, or custom and be outstanding. The only thing it cannot be, without major changes is "purist correct". That may limit resale value...maybe not. It's already far from original, you're the only one who can say if that matters...or how it matters, if at all.

Looks to me like you have some good raw material to work with.

Yep, late production K0 frame, 1971.

This bike has been pieced together from parts of at least 3 different models. Viewed on a monitor screen it's obviously been repainted...badly.

The good news is that it looks like mostly OEM parts, with the engine & front being uprades. Bad paint is easy enough to strip. And, heavy paint usually hides clean, solid, metal. Coated steel doesn't rust.

Honda didn't declare model years until that became a federal requirement in 1975.

1970 model year, on the title, is perfectly okay for this bike. I incorrectly guessed January 1971 date of manufacture.

Another thing that's confusing is back in the day some states titled them as the year they were sold. So you easily could have say a bike built in July of 70 sold and titled in January of 71 etc.

Yep, exactly...which segues neatly into some basic wisdom. First, if it's titled, it's not worth debating the model year. Anyone aware of the basics, and that would include anyone with the slightest bit of purist tendencies, would know that debating the DOM vs model year declaration is ridiculous. Second, as it sits, this machine is 4 assemblies away from an HK1the best 4-speed version plus it looks straight & remarkably complete. It has the engine & improved fork that make it the same as a factory-built HK1, from the riders perspective. If the frame was an HK1, by its VIN, we'd be having a different conversation. But, think about it...how much functional/operational difference would there be?
