Just thinking about it for a few minutes...
$250 for a ugly beater core minibike
550 high dollar pipe
125 for a super cheap lower end engine core
350 or so for the V2 top end
150 for a set of tires
100 dollar gamble for rear shocks
75 carb
But stay tuned, there's more to come...

That's what killed my Full restoMod project 1970 K0 CT70. The cost of parts! Then add in all the wrench time....:coffee:
It's a big reason i got the Honda cmx250C Rebel for just under $3K 427mi.. ..

It's a crossroads, where every Rider weighs & picks what's best for them and their situation.

Adam, you did have another CT with a lifan engine in it, didn't you? Did you sell that one?

The ODB should be pretty comfortable, and up to 70mph on the street when it's done. So if I have 2K into it, it'll be well worth that price to me. The labor, is a labor of love, when it's your own bike.
But anyone reading this thread, or looking at this ugly green bike, might be surprised at how much money got spent. It's all good.
I might have to build a beautiful bike pretty soon tho. Man that Ruby Red looks SWEET when it's slick and shiny new.
I've always said that I wouldn't ever go for the typical ruby red restored bike...but it looks soo dang good. It will be difficult to choose CYS instead :yellow70:

Yep, a L110, on a 77 Ct70, i got from Tx. A great bike and i started seriously building it wit the Lifan; long swing arm & front disk brake set up . It got pricey at the halfway point. So congress pulled the funding.:ROFLMAO:

The 1977, i'm gonna hold on to it. I dig the color and i have the whole bike, even found a real close matching engine, sitting in the trunk of my old coupe for now.
My 91' is great for cruising and hopefully dependable with it being a 12v & 88cc soon... But as CJ pointed out the other day (so elequintly lol), the fold down handle bar year bikes with the Chrome are the most popular model year bikes, the 91 not so much and i agree...
Plus have sold all my other fold -downs Trail bikesfor the ca$h.;)
Are you looking at getting another Frame?

I'm gonna say... you're right..?
I recently sold off 4 or 5 frames...a couple with engine cases. So I have less now.
But I WAS tempted to buy one a couple weeks ago. A eBay seller listed 2 really weathered K0 frames from Arizona I think. The red K0 had some really nice patina...I liked it. I came very close to clicking the $175 BIN when it first listed. But the reason I wanted it, was to build a Ol Dirty Bastard bike

Looks like you have a bad case of Honda-itis. No cure for that. The only thing you can do to survive that dreaded disease is throw lots of money at it.:(

I'm good at that. And I have the savings account to prove it.

The one item that leaves me shaking my head...the "high-dollar" pipe. Why would that be the most expensive component, especially on a low-dollar, high-performance rat bike?

Yea, the Over the top priced Over pipe should go on a pretty build. The CHP stock looking high flow pipe would look good imo.

I spend a LOT of time considering exhausts. It's one of the most mysterious items of all, for my minibikes. Second only to shocks. I'm betting you're thinking that I would have been farther ahead to spend my money on rear shocks...but which ones?? They only have to be big and shiny, but good would be a big plus. Especially if I'm gonna spend 5-600 dollars on them.

I had pretty much imagined a Over pipe on this bike all along. I knew it was well made, big and shiny, and a minibike guy is likely to recognize it.

This bike is supposed to look like a beater, that I ONLY put a few new high performance parts...enough to make it go fast on the street. The exhaust is the most, in your face, part on the entire bike...people SEE it from a distance. The big shiny engine too. Shocks...not so much. Who's gonna recognize, and SAY, "hey nice shocks".

I just ordered a $60 set of shocks from dratv. They're NOT very big but they're shiny...probably not very good either. At least I'll have something to put on this bike. And it'll be one set of cheap shocks that I'll know whether or not I like.
I'll be happy to put some good shocks on it...as soon as I figure out where to find them.

OLD CT, if you've ridden that pipe on a big engine...heard it, and recommend it, I definitely want to know.
But I wanted a extraordinary pipe on my ODB. I don't see any thing too extraordinary about the CHP pipe, except that it looks stock.
For the correct LOOK, on this bike, a stock pipe would need to be dirty, rusty, and maybe dented up a bit.

I do tend to agree about the Over-priced pipe. It's nice, but it's not THAT special. I'm ok with that tho...it fits into my vision.
But it IS titanium...that's kinda extraordinary. And it does, at least, have SOME sound damping built in.
Once ive spent some time riding it, I'll let y'all know how I really like it. I expect it will be a little loud for my taste...I'm ok with a LITTLE too loud. If it's obnoxious, it'll have to go.

I got some pretty good Rear shocks at Trail Buddy. i bought their front disk shock set -up and these rear-shocks ended up getting thrown in the deal too. I forget the particulars but they were really great to work with.

now I think i will put the front disk Shock set-up on my 91', might as well, they're new and i wasn't too impressed w/t ct70 stock brakes and now with a 88 kit, the front disk Brakes is prob a good idea.:coffee:
It will still look stock...not that much difference, front shocks are a few mm bigger that's it.

$550 is way too fancy for my taste Kirb. I would never spend that much. 300 is my limit. I really like my Takagawa pipe that looks stock and uses the K1 guard.
It's stainless and Japanese certified quiet. It comes with a laminated card stating it's legal for use on the street. I do not like to have a pipe that is a ''down'' under the engine style pipe. I like the shocks I bought and painted black, with real compression and dampening adjustments.

Pic of the pipe and shocks before I painted the springs.

I have the same over pipe in stainless. It’s not obnoxiously loud. It has a refined mini-motoGP kinda vibe. Think it was more like 3 bills in stainless. It’s proximity to the ground is more worrisome, but I have yet to scrap it on the street.

I wish we lived closer. would love to go ridding. That bike looks fast and fast and great. My HK1 runs great, but you would SMOKE it.lol. You told me one time that I would love the stroker kit and stuff, but I just cant bring myself to mod the HK1. Maybe I should mod a different motor for it....?

That is a great lookin bike OLD CT. And I'll bet you have it all dialed in.
I do like that Takegawa pipe. But I'm a big fan of the Super Stealth, for stock looking, big exhausts. I am running 2 of them, and one on the shelf. The SS allows you to keep the brush guard too.
But I can't put, up pipes, on ALL of my bikes. Ya gotta live a little. Step outside of the box, and all that.
