Hornetgod's HK1 restoration project

After a well documented search and a little help from some friends, I was able to work out a deal with Darrel. It's a little rough but, I think it will be an excellent project. I plan to restore it as a Candy Ruby Red. This thread will document the restoration process. I will keep you all updated with pictures and progress reports. I may be asking for help from other HK1 owners. Thanks in advance for any help you may lend.

Excellent! I'm glad you finally got an HK1....Have you been riding it around enjoying the softer front end? Taken it on any trails by your house yet? That would be a good bike to take trail riding as it is now.

How come you don't have that bad boy out yet?! You have wanted one for so long, go enjoy it and get it dirty before you start the resto!

Your NOT going to keep the CYS paint right?
You said when you painted your CEG that it wouldn't be right to spray a bike a different color than Honda did.
I think CYS is a very rare Honda color myself. And the fact that CYS is the only 1 paint candy color given to a CT makes that bike probably the rarest Mini Trail ever made Bill!

Nice find. I've got the same bike, and I kept it Candy Special Yellow original. Did a lot of other things to it, though, so keep us posted as to the restore.

Yeh, gotta keep it yellow.
Get HOK yellow, Don Dirtbiker yellow special is more like candy gold. Ask me how I know!:(

I value all of your opinions but, the Candy Yellow Special has to go. You are right about my HKO, I did ponder a color change and finally opted to keep it original. This one is entirely different. Candy Ruby Red is amazing and it's near the top of my favorite CT70 colors. I know it will upset a few purest out there but, as I've said before, I can't stand Candy Yellow Special. In fact, I see more HK1's in yellow than I have in Red. I wonder what the color percentages were. Besides, there's no records tracking VIN's and original colors. As long as I keep it a correct color for that model I figure I'm alright.

According to the color poll, CRR crushed CYS 19 to 9 in the voting.

I don't think you're the only one this has happened to. Another reason not to go with that color. It's one of the hardest to duplicate.

The Ruby Red is too dark for me but whatever color you paint it I'm sure it'll be pristine and will follow the restoration with much interest.:1:

CRR can be dark indoors but, it pops in the sunlight. Jaw dropping if done right. I will keep you all posted with info and pictures as things progress. Don't expect a 4 week restoration like the HKO. I'm taking my time on this one.

Ordered Special Yellow, said so on the invoice. The first batch of paint was green (Put on a friends candy gold bike to show contrast)

The whole difficulty you both have had matching CYS is steering me even harder in the direction of CRR.

Flash's HK1 color looks more like a KO Candy Gold. Art your's look to be a closer match but, still a little off. Perhaps I'll contact George and see if he has any pictures of a CYS he may have shot.
