I didn't feel anyone was being called out either, it would be nice if the guy gave back the engine even if it wasn't fixed...

And while I will no longer be contacting Terry (he has all of my information, should he decide to do the right thing), if any of you truly know him in person, I just want my stuff back. Doesn't have to be rebuilt, etc....just give it back. I'll even pay for shipping. And I've told him this multiple times. Just give it back and I'll go away forever.

My $.02..... I have a couple of CL70's that i use as city rippers around downtown Indianapolis. If you've read any of my posts, you know i'm not a Honda purist. So....i'm thrilled with my bikes with the Lifan 125cc semi-auto. If you pick up a 12v harness, some 12v bulbs and an engine/carb setup, you can be ripping down the street in about an 2 hours. You can retain the stock exhaust, won't need an oil cooler and have a bike that not only looks cool, but is a blast to ride. You also don't have to worry about breaking the engine in, I run them WOT right outta the box. Depending on gearing selection, you can hit 55+mph, but still lift the front end at the crack of the throttle in low & 2nd gear. Don't let it sit, throw an engine in it and have fun.

OK, bringing this one back to life....

I found a brand new Lifan 125 semi-automatic for a great price. I would have preferred the full manual, but I can get a really great deal on this one. I know that there have been a million swaps done but the more I read, the less I know.

Here's a pic of the actual engine and a copy/paste of the specs:

From the wiring diagrams I could find online, the five-wire CDI, which this has, has the 12-volt output wire for lights & charging. Is that correct? Does this engine have the lighting coil?
I want to run and charge a battery. I want to run head and tail/brake lights. I think all I need is a regulator and, of course, a new 12v battery and bulbs.

Here's a link to the place where the seller got the engine. This is exactly what I'll (probably) be getting for my '71 CL70.

Does anyone know if the footpegs will work or will I need a spacer (seen that mentioned before)?
Is that manifold long enough or will I need one of those 45 degree spacers to turn it?
And...again... will that engine power lights? If so, what regulator will I need?

I'm not too familiar with lifan swaps, but I'm pretty sure this is the reg/rec you'll need, or another like it.

The CDI has nothing to do with lighting. The coil wires will come out of it, but no 12v lighting. Not sure if your motor has more than one lighting coil, but it definitely will power lights. Unless someone who knows this motor chimes in with some info, you'll have to wait for the engine to arrive, then sort out the wiring.

Well, I know a guy that has a CL70 that is taking the engine out and replacing with a daytona 190. Bike runs perfectly fine. As a matter of fact, he's bringing it to my house in about 2 weeks to perform the surgery. So, if someone wants a good running, bone-stock CL70 engine, this one here might be your ticket.

Can you PM me details? Price, location, etc.?

Well, I spoke with him on the phone.
He'd want 400 which would include the complete engine, intake, stator side cover, carb, airbox, and coil, kicker, and shifter I confirmed with him today that it runs perfect, but it is running a china carb on it. Both china carb and OE carb (if he can find it) will be included. Engine is located in Mid-Ohio or can be brought to Northern VA for pickup or ship. I think he said it had 1200 original miles on it. Bike is really really nice bike...I purchased it for him at the Mid Ohio swap meet last year. Overall bike is 100% original and prob a 8.5/10. The exhaust is mint and will be selling that too.

That certainly sounds like a good buy.
Fatcaaat, I think some of the early CL's had a 4down shift pattern. Do you know the shift pattern on this one?

Still collecting parts. Picked up the semi-auto 125 since it was a steal. Grabbed a new wiring harness to make the 12V conversion easier. New headlight with replaceable bulb, also for the 12V conversion. Carb plate adapter/spinner is here and a new foam filter is on the way.
I even pulled the bike out of storage and back into the main garage. I'm working on a CB500/550 project right now, but I'll be back on this one soon.
