How Many Ways Can You Screw Up a CT70

Maybe this has been a thread already, but I thought it'd be fun to recount any stories of picking up an old beater and finding some inexplicable "home repair" done to the poor bike.

I thought of this after tearing one down last night and finding the paint job slightly wanting. Now, I've seen these things painted without the painter having removed any parts, but this one beat even those. After I took the flywheel cover, chainguard and flywheel off, I discovered that the entire stator plate had been spray bombed red too! Leave no stone unturned, I guess.

I bought a Z50 at a garage sale (long, long ago) that had a CT70 front wheel on it that had been polishing the front of the cylinder head every time it hit a bump, and it had a sock air filter, . . . no, I mean a real sock. The PO took the spring that was originally in an aftermarket foam sock of some sort and stuck it inside a fuzzy terry cloth sock that had been pretty liberally oiled, and clamped it on the backside of the carb. It just kind of bounced around on the cases behind the carb. The really strange thing was that the engine had good compression so I never tore it apart. I put a Z50 air filter and front wheel on it and we rode the snot out of it, 'til some joker swiped it. Great little engines.

Previous owner had done this instead of just getting a new one and also managed to strip a footpeg mounting bolt out so he drilled the hole larger and filled it with jbweld and then tapped it but for a way larger bolt??? Idk what they were thinking, at least use the correct bolt...

Jesus, just saw the original post date lol oops...

Where do I begin?

My gold K0 2/70 which is at racerx in storage showed the signs of the previous owner ships.

As the over look started the damage got clear and taken care of:

Kick shaft arm was broken. The seal behind non working and oil all over which benefit the frame from rust.

No nut on the flywheel and the threads ruined on the crank shaft. Flywheel had hammer marks on it.

Damage to the motor blocks. Serial side had to be replaced.

3 holes drilled into the right side for mounting something. Welded out.

Rear mount for shocks was bent and have been replaced

Headlight ears bent but saved

Handle bars bent

One fork leg bent.

Battery holder incomplete

Rectifier bent

Frame bent under the seat left side pointing inwards too much. Has been bent back

Seat pan cracked but all repaired

I think I got it all but Racerx might recall more. Still this K0 is not bad once the damage was under control.

It looks like the this one never rode another mile since the mid '70s but the oil on the frame stopped the rust from total ruin.
