One last thing, if you look closely you can see the wingroot and its metal plate---as we were about to climb aboard for our ride, Addison warned us to keep our feet on the plate so we didn't step right through the doped-up wing fabric, LOL.

Oh, wait, one more classic bit o' trivia, the hangar row where they kept all the old biplanes was called "Skid Row"---had the sign on the hangar wall at Gillespie Field, LOL.

Forum rules...can’t have one user with two usernames. Since your comment brought this thread to the new posts page I saw your comment about Gillespie field... that is a really cool airport. A pilot’s paradise no doubt. I flew in there last week and landed on 27R...after dodging the hills of course

If you like Gillespie Field, you'll REALLY like the story behind PEMBERTON & SONS AVIATION, they used to fly outta Gillespie but they're now up near Spokane... that whole family is radical, they restore vintage aircraft and the results are truly amazing. Find them on the web, whether it's Facebook or some other site, their restoration pics & videos will certainly provide you with some insight & entertainment. I flew with Addison Pemberton aboard a 1931 Stearman Sr. Speedmail biplane, same craft which landed on farm roads back in the day and delivered/picked up sacks of mail, aye? Addison is a natural born pilot, best I've ever flown with in my limited biplane experience, and the work the family does in restoring vintage aircraft is quite respectable, just find the pics and you'll see what I mean.
