I also think the engine is original. The only thing you need to consider when buying parts is the cam chain adjuster. Yours is the manually adjusted type. So you would want to use a K3 Z50 parts fiche when you're ordering engine parts.

The first TL bracket mount I posted above is for a early K1. I goofed that. You can tell by what's left of yours that it was NOT the K1 type. The 2nd link I posted would ship from Australia. So the 2 parts end up being close in price when you figure in shipping.

Being an Australian bike changes a lot- maybe the fenders and tank are what are supposed to be on it anyway. Build it the way you want it to be :monkey:

With these bikes (Z50s & CT70s) rarity brings a degree of unpredictability. What I mean is that it's difficult, sometimes impossible, to determine what was factory-original to a bike with 100% certainty, if parts are missing. There were a lot of country-specific models sold into the late `90s and, with the possible exception of a few JDM models (few of which left Japan) all of them sold in smaller numbers than the North American versions, especially 1970s era. That makes desirability tough to figure out, in terms of market value.

IMHO, these rare versions tend to fall into 3 main categories: purist-collector, raw material to base a custom build (when there's so much missing that replacement is impractical), and those that fall somewhere between those 2 categories. Reads a little silly, I know. What I'm talking about are the bikes that can be brought back using a handful of non-original parts to end up with a really nice machine that closely approximates original...but lacks the kind of rock-solid documentation that is possible with the US-spec bikes. For someone who likes having something just a little different, yet instantly recognizable, they are cool machines. Guaranteed, you'll never pass another one being ridden in the opposite direction.:monkey:

Thanks for the advice guys. This bike will be built to the best of my ability and I’m predicting it will remain as close to OEM in appearance as possible. The bike will never be sold. It was a gift from my uncle who played a huge part of me being into motocross/motorcycles to begin with. I’ve taught both of my kids how to ride by using “Monkey bike” the name we’ve given the family bike. Even my wife loves to ride and chase the kids around on it.

Awesome!

Well, you'll need to figure out which rear fender is correct for that Aussie K2. It has the K1 type on it now, but I'm betting it should have the long K2 type.

Also, looks it looks like it uses the K1 type rear brake parts. K1 cable, vs K2 type cable.

The taillight bracket is I think specific to the Aussie bike too...different than the American K2 bracket. So you might want to look into that also. And the taillight itself.

I have a Z50A built on 4/72
Frame is - 387xxx
Engine is - 403xxx

I see the K2 engine were numbered 270236-399999

It’s definitely a K2. I find this very interesting.
