Helmet Preferences

Hey Gang,

I wanted to see what people's preferences are on helmets for bikes topping around the 50mph range. I've got a Lifan 125 Swap bike with a CT70 style footprint. I got it to peak at 54mph on flat ground and don't intend to break 45mph too often. I want a good helmet for safety but also don't want to get one designed for optimal breathing at highway speed....so I figured I'd ask the experts on riding smaller bikes!

Thanks!

Actually, helmet safety isn't affected very much by speed. No point going into a longwinded dissertation. Best protection would be a full-face unit, including chin coverage from a high-end manufacturer, such as ARAI. Those can cost a bundle and, I find them uncomfortable. Such is the price of safety.

At one time, I wore a "brain bucket" a.k.a. half helmet. It actually made the wind noise worse...a lot worse. I've since gone back to the type I wore back in the 1970s...covers the ears, polycarbonate plastic face shield, that can be raised. That allows me to wear glasses...otherwise, it's contact lenses. Wind noise is reduced but, with the face shield in place, it's kinda echo-y. With goggles/sans face shield noise level is reduced, overall.

I have a Arai Quantum2 full face. $450 was the price it cost new. It's 10 years old now. Can't use it for drag racing anymore it's snell rating # is out of date.
