1970/71 Australian model Z50A

Ok, I'm about ready to start paint on my mini trail. Bought the Australian rear brake frame mount from the good folks at Honda Z50 reproduction parts in Australia. Collected a few other pieces and bought some bearings for my hubs. Had to weld a few holes in my tank and also relined it with epoxy. Should seal up nice. Still debating on buying a new head and cylinder. I'm looking at the 72cc kit. I'm open for debate on that. I'll post pictures here in a minute.

Turn1nitro24, I can see from here, you ain't messin around!
I'm excited about your build thread.

72cc top end would be a really nice upgrade. It will make the bike a lot more interesting to ride than if you stick with 49cc. 88cc big bore kits are what most folks will use. That would make the Lil hardtail fast and jumpy. Fun for you, but you'll have a hard time mellowing it down for youngsters to ride. 88cc would also require quite a few other upgrades...more than what you'd probably want.

If you keep the stock cyl and head, clean and safe, the bike can always go BACK to stock, for the sake of a collectors appeal/value.

tbparts sells very good quality kits for reasonable prices. DRATV/Beatrice cycle too.
NEVC, CHP also. I'm betting you're already familiar with those websites.

BTW, don't buy a $60 one size fits all eBay China kit. Just don't.

I'm realizing this project could cost endless amounts of money on all OEM parts. I'm gonna cut corners where I can to save cash. This is a family bike that will be ridden by everyone from beginners to to me most of the time. With that in mind I'm building a nice reliable good looking bike that will look like it's worth something because it deserves too. Trying to order stuff by priority. Here's my parts in epoxy primer. I'll need to figure out the paint here. Debating single stage paint for durability vs. two stage with clear coat. It will be ruby red. I'll need to use a flat silver cloud for covers and a satin grey for wheels. I might leave the white off the tank.

The white on the tank will be missed for sure. That's a really big part of the signature look. If you don't do it from the get, you'll be unlikely to ever go back. Maybe save some money by leaving out the emblems. Those can be added easily, at any time.

Well I picked out a few colors today and shot what I call cloud silver. It’s a bit dark, but I was using my eye on the color chart. Same for the white and ruby red. Parts came out good.

Bottom end is completely gone through and rebuilt. Still along ways to go, but it's coming along.

Looking great! You can tell it's not an authentic restoration though- you used primer :ROFLMAO:. Should last a long time and take some abuse with the epoxy. Keep the pictures coming

Put the wheels and short block in temporarily to get the aftermarket kickstand sorted out. Any suggestions on exhaust? I’d like to keep it quiet as I run it in the front yard a lot chasing my kids around.

Did you go with the 72cc cylinder??

You can probably just run the stock exhaust with 72cc.
DrATV has a aftermarket lookalike exhaust too.
Even if you went 88cc, and with the stock head...I would run the stock (quiet) exhaust.

Nitro, I had this same model back in high school but it certainly didn't look as nice as yours! Almost too pretty to ride :ROFLMAO: Great job!

Any idea how much this project will end up costing you? Just curious.

Kirrby I went with CHP motorsports 72 cc kit to work with my stock head which i'm rebuilding. When Im done maybe 1400.00 into it. I bought a new CHP exhaust non oem kit.
