Painted Skidplate Look Cheesy?

There was a bunch of little rust spots so I sanded the whole top of the Skid Plate, washed it and acetoned it before painting it with Metallic paint. I figured the location of it wouldn't stand out bad.

No one will notice. If chroming is out of the question right now, do what you have to do. The rest of the thing looks good from what I can see.

Nah, not cheezy. This is what I'd call "tasteful restraint" with the silver paint. If it was rusted & pitted, this has to look a lot cleaner. The plate section isn't really all that noticeable, on the bike.

Nice thing about paint is that it can be stripped easily enough...if you ever decide to have the part re-chromed.

Looks good to me. My project bike is a rider, and the previous owner used some JB weld on an engine cover where it must have cracked. It’s at the bottom of the cover and has no bearing or function problems.. so in that case, let er ride haha!

Silver wheel paint is the best choice, imho. It's cheap, fairly durable, hides a multitude of surface flaws and is easy to work with. Chrome paint always sounds like such a great idea but, the stuff never looks better than soft-polished aluminum, at best...and it's extremely fragile.

I do know of one chrome paint system that does truly rival the appearance of chrome plating. It's supposed to be very durable paint. Between the cost, setup, and finicky required prep, it doesn't make any sense on a bike.
