The Three Amigos... Sage, Dixie & Wingnut!!!

Job is going well, I learned how to knock out the starter/generators on these golf carts, swapping worn brushes & wiring for nice new gear... not rocket science, but it took a little while to get the knack, LOL. Big boss stopped by the shop and liked what he saw, #2 boss liked it too, we're gonna make a good shop team when everything gets dialed in the way we want it. In the meantime it's steady full-time work, Monday thru Friday with full gubmint benefits, so I'm on it. I must admit I'm ready for a cold beer & a hot shower, it's a dirty & greasy job at times but at least it's honest dirt & grease, LOL.

Hey, got a question for y'all, anybody here ever organize a fairly large shop set up for multiple machines and equipment? I'm gonna reorganize this monumental clusterf#% in due time, but it's a real mess right now, just about the worst I've ever seen... I'm still hurling trash and clearing the dust of centuries from the shelves, I've yet to start classifying & reorganizing parts, many of which are in bags or boxes so filthy that one can't even see the parts or read the numbers, 10-4? It's a mess, believe me, but all the new guys (myself included) wanna make it better, since a clean shop is a more efficient and productive shop.

My first resolution is simple: keep the John Deere parts in one section, Toro parts in another, E-Z-GO parts in a third, generic parts in a fourth, etc. Once that's done, I can try to organize each section better so folks will actually be able to recognize and find the parts they need. It's a big job though, I'm talking about a $h!tload of parts, LOL. I was downright lucky today to find a buried box of brush kits for the carts, 17 kits in all which will certainly help get some of the down carts running. But if anyone has ideas on organizing many, many parts for a dozen different machines and pieces of equipment, I'm all ears...

THE EASIEST WAY WOULD BE TO SIMPLY NUKE THE MAINTENANCE SHED, THEN START OVER AGAIN, LOL...

Here's how i organized all my diff parts, that were in storage; i got these steel shelves from Home Depot. I waited till they went on sale and got three of these shelving units. In these pics to the right of my Rebel you can see em'. There's only 2 shelves shown bit i've since added a third shelf. They great for organizing and you can set the distance between shelves and you can stack them to a certain extent. I could use two more.

Just as important as the physical storage (shelving etc) is being able to track what you have in inventory. I use the empty boxes that hold the reams of paper stored by the copier at work for my smaller parts. I number them and stack them on the shelves. On a spreadsheet I keep track of each part by part number, and description, along with quantity, the price paid, the project/bike it is planned for and the box it is in. Without the spreadsheet I have no idea what I have or where the part is. I also cut the boxes down in height depending on what is inside so that I can pack them on the shelves efficiently.
Note: I’ve been acquiring parts for years to support my plan to retire and restore all the different bikes I’ve acquired over the years. Don’t know if I’ll get to them all but I’m going to have fun trying.

It will take some effort to log your inventory into a spreadsheet/ database but if the shop keeps inventory well worth the effort. If you don’t and just order parts based on the needed repair that’s a different matter.

I appreciate the tips, and we're gonna make a big push to clean up the shop and get stuff organized... I've made a dent, but this shop has been neglected for YEARS, so making it right won't happen overnight, LOL. Meh, it's a gubmint job, so I'll probably RETIRE from the reorganization effort, 10-4? At least a dumpster's worth of trash has been cleared from the shelves and work benches, and it's starting to LOOK like a shop, but we have a ways to go, and there are some nasty drums and whatnot out back that would violate all EPA and OSHA rules & regs... but we're gonna clear all that cr@p outta there, and good riddance. Place is spider heaven too, and they grow 'em BIG here in Arizona. I'm not squeamish about insects, but today I saw the LARGEST FREAKIN' BLACK WIDOW I've ever seen in my life, thought it was a tarantula in the dim light under a cart seat in the other shed, but sure enough, it was a widow... thing was the size of a Greyhound Bus, LOL.

Man, am I ever looking forward to this holiday weekend... a paid holiday too, haven't seen one of those in ages, LOL. We're getting things done with the reorganization, while new parts and stuff are coming in to make life easier, but it's still a daunting task... I'm just taking one day at a time. Today wasn't too bad, I worked on carts and helped with a John Deere mower which needed some repairs... it's actually a FrankenMower put together with parts from three separate mowers, thing looks like it has been around since dinosaurs roamed the earth.

I'm headin' back to the ol' hacienda to kick my boots off and enjoy a nice cold beer... have to take another shower too, it was that kinda day at ye olde maintenance shed. But there are positives about the job, sometimes barn kitty & I have the place all to ourselves for long stretches of time, tomorrow will be an easy day because there'll be no inmate crews to help with the mowing, just the regular crew doing their usual thing, so I'll have the shop to myself for much of the day. Heller scenery outside, country tunes playin' in the background... meh, life could be worse.

Dog belongs on the course, LOL... I know about the unpaid holidays, had enough of 'em in the past. Just taking it easy today, enjoying the time off (which is more important to me than the money, believe me). I'm a veteran too, so I guess I've earned it... USA INF all the way!!!

Internet gets set up in my home on Saturday, which means football soon afterward, WOOHOO!!! Had to take care of some bills & whatnot, but my next check will help get things right in the primo bachelor pad. Looking forward to it... job is going well, I fixed four golf carts today, LOL. I'm beginning to like this gubmint job even more, since I have the shop to myself much of the time and I can listen to country tunes while tinkering with carts, awesome scenery visible through the open bay doors. Cruising back and forth from shop to cart shed is also fun, I tow carts back and forth as I work on 'em and the scenery is great... gonna be raining tomorrow and Wednesday, so I'll focus on getting things organized in the shop. At least everything is working out well, and the crew of workers is a good one... they work on irrigation issues, and they also take the mowers out to keep the course looking good. Anyway, I'll be back when I have Internet up and running in my home... as soon as I leave the library (where I use free Wi-Fi), it's Cold Beer City, LOL. CHEERS!!!

P.S. I get paid for Thursday AND Friday on Thanksgiving Weekend... we swap Columbus Day for Black Friday so we get four straight days off, two of 'em paid, LOL. Gubmint, Baby, Gubmint!!!

Yeah, it's coming along... whenever I test drive a cart after fixing it, I back the governor off as far as possible so the cart hauls @$$, I'll even do a circuit on the dirt & gravel road around the shop, drifting like crazy in the corner turns, LOL. It's almost ridiculous, drifting in a golf cart, but it CAN be done when the cart is turned up, aye? I always turn 'em back down so drunken golfers don't roll the carts and get injured or killed, LOL. If the course were in Kalifornia, that would mean lawsuit city, pfffffffft. Here in Arizona, it's just another day on the course, no worries.

Which reminds me, we had some drunken fooliots run into a tree, they totally trashed the left front strut which supports the roof and windshield, broke the (plastic) windshield in the bargain, and left tree bark everywhere on the deck. They claimed they weren't in the cart at the time, that the parking brake *failed* and the cart rolled into the tree, but I could tell the cart was driven at top speed into the tree, LOL. Too many drinks from the beverage cart gal, I reckon. Meh, it's all job security, we have some parts carts out back which have the necessary strut & windshield.

I think it's a livestock trailer, those look like stalls on the side, or stall windows that can be opened, yeah? Anyway, it's worthy of pics, might as well cruise in air-ride comfort with that mini road tractor.

Hey, I'm gonna check out the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Competition in Tombstone next weekend, nice way to spend some of that extra holiday time, aye? Should be a fine exhibition of shooting skills... ain't so easy to hit targets from horseback, especially on the gallop. Dunno if they're gonna break the contest into classes or divisions, as far as pistols & rifles go. As a former Infantry soldier, I reckon mounting a .50-cal. machine gun atop the horse could be... er... problematic... no doubt, and probably a dead horse in the bargain, LOL. Anyway, it should be a cool contest, and I imagine most (if not all) the riders will be dressed in Old West attire. Gotta love an "open carry" state like Arizona... perps are nervous because even Grandma is strapped with a .44, LOL. Sure beats the Socialist Republik of Kalifornia, where political tools of globalist trash are actively trying to disarm citizens, pfffft. Those traitorous political establishment scumbags are all bought & sold like so many branded and ear-tagged cattle. Well, I'm off to town, gotta hit the store before a technician arrives this afternoon to set up the Internet in my home... hopefully I can watch football tomorrow, I've already missed too many games. Saw the mayor again, this time after work in WallyWorld... the city paid us early since the folks in the Finance Dept. will also be taking a 4-day holiday, LOL. Nice move, beats gettin' wanked with your check delayed, LOL. The mayor was all tatted up like a biker too, that was the first comment I made: "DUDE, YER ALL TATTED UP LIKE A BIKER!!!" Folks were swirling around us as we shook hands, it was pretty funny... one guy (who obviously knew the mayor) said, "GET OUTTA THE AISLE!!!"

Anyway, I just bought a 20-lb. ButterBall Turkey to roast on Thanksgiving Day as I drink beer and watch football... stuffing in the bird, of course, some homemade mashed potatoes on the side, plenty o' gravy made from drippings too, and cranberry jelly for my meal (as well as a truckload of turkey sandwiches the following workweek, LOL). Hell, I'll mack turkey all weekend in one form or another (think Forrest Gump's black Army pal here) as I watch football, finally got games on my Samsung 6 Series smart TVs, don'tcha know?

I also found a free Samsung TV Plus app which includes a surfing channel, so I watched riders tackle some monster waves last night after the Monday Night Football game turned into a beatdown, LOL. Meh, the surfing video was excellent on my 65" curved screen, full screen video with HUGE BARRELS THUNDERING AWAY, WAVES PEELING LEFT & RIGHT, AND SOME RIDERS GETTIN' WORKED AS THEY ATE $H!T, LOL. Great footage, reminded me of Coronado and those crazy fools at the surf shop, those KNUCKLEHAIDS!!!

Some of those boyz who hung out at the shop could ride some serious waves though, including former-pro-surfer-turned-crackhead Mikey J. who could ABSOLUTELY RIP in surfing... he had something like 29 photos in the surfing mags, including a center spread with Mikey JAMMIN' HARD down a freaking HUGE BARREL, I probably could've driven a goddam truck through that thing, draggin' a 53' wagon in the process, LOL. Meh, we all do what we can... moi, I was always a better skateboarder and extreme small craft sailor.

NONE OF THOSE FOOLS COULD TOUCH ME WHEN IT CAME TO SAILING, ESPECIALLY THOSE LASER ISLAND VOYAGES WHICH NOBODY HAS REPEATED, NOT TO MENTION SAILING THE LENGTH OF THE SALTON SEA ABOARD A 12' MINIFISH, LOL...

Happy thanksgiving - I’ll second your leftover turkey sandwiches especially if there is some stuffing to go on them as well.

You're a man after my own heart, LOL... gotta have cranberry jelly in that sandwich too. I'm gonna make some bad@$$ turkey sandwiches for lunch next week, plus throw together the usual turkey soup down the line, with fresh veggies & pasta in the mix. That soup is always filling, and I personally guarantee that each bowl will feed an Ethiopian village for at least a month, LOL.

Right now I'm enjoying a few cold beers after work, a cold rain is coming down but I already grabbed a hot shower and put on some comfy house clothes... had some cat distraction this morning on my way out the door, so I forgot to pull the big ol' bird outta the freezer, but no worries, I have that bird soaking in a huge plastic utility tub of hot water, that sumb!tch will be READY to go into the oven manana, LOL.

I'll check it again before I crash (if I'm not too drunk), and I'll add more hot water if necessary, 10-4? Tomorrow, beer-thirty will arrive early as I prep the meal, watch some football, and chillax in the comfort of my own home... no plans to go anywhere, I'm just gonna hunker down and enjoy quality time with the kittehs as I do the holiday deal. I think this rain will fall through the holiday, but I don't care, I'm good to go...

No plans to go anywhere this weekend except to the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Competition in Tombstone, though I heard rumors that the cowboys only use .22-caliber firearms instead of big ol' .44s & .45s, ya know? Sheeeeeee-it, where's the "COWBOY" in that .22 bull$h!t? I know those cowboys of old weren't plinking Injuns with a Ruger bulb-barrel .22 pistol or 10-.22 rifle, AYE???

Maybe I'll call the number listed in the Trading Post rag and ask the gal whether the cowboys will be firing REAL weapons, LOL. If .22s are used instead of .44s & .45s, I might as well enter the contest myself... show up drunk and ride a bucking bronc, bulb-barrel pistol in one hand and sawed-off 10-.22 rifle in the other, PFFFFFFT. Probably win the contest too, the friggin' lightweights...

That looks familiar! Except i have the dreaded black stove, notorious for keeping clean.I've learned to use microfiber cloth & plain boiling water, no soap needed & works great.

I'm down to the soup part of my turkey too; i usually add mashed potatoes in there, makes decent porridge. Guinness is my choice for Holiday beer.... Cheers!
