3rd wheel

Thanks Gary. Some of my crimps look great, but not all. Like most things, I got better with them, the more I did. The crimper itself works really well...not perfect, but I would definitely recommend it. And I'd recommend crimping about 10, various terminals onto practice wires before doing your finish work. It takes some practice to work out the kinks. The instructions that came with it are good and should be followed.
I think mine was recommended to me by Jon Pardue a couple years ago.
I'll post some info for you tonight...I still have the paperwork.

I'm the winner of this prize too.

Looks like 3 tires and some other goodies there. Couldn't let it go for <$100 and 20 minutes drive. More crap...just what I need:--)

Oh I hear you. I used to solder and shrink wrap too and it kind of makes sense though, the solder wicking so far up the wire and all. Probably in our little world it doesn't matter, but you have to admit Hondas wiring seems to have always worked- mice cause more problems than vibrations do. What I do see is that kirrbbys workmanship is excellent....

I realized...maybe only 4-5 days ago, that THIS was going to be a problem. TRX90 Lside cover, on a ATC70. Last night I bolted it up for a look.

Thanks CJ. I'm pretty dang happy to be nearing the end with the wire harness. Seems like I've been stuck there for a month.

Here's what I'm thinking on the flywheel cover.

The ATC70 cover fits and fills the gap over to the big steel chain guard.
s-l1600.jpg s-l400 (2).jpg

The TRX90 flywheel cover leaves a big gap to catch snow, sand, mud...plus, it just looks like shit.
IMG_20200212_210401455.jpg

The 70 pullstart, is different than the 90 pullstart...but I'm wondering how different they are..?
Maybe the ATC70 flywheel cover will work with the 90...12v flywheel and PS cage??
Maybe the 90 PS can be made to work with the 70 flywheel cover??
Maybe I can graft the tail end of a 70 FW cover, onto the 90 FW cover??

Spanglers sells a kit to replace a broken/missing ATC70 pullstarter...
Their pullstart "conversion" kit comes with a spacer that moves the bolt pattern on the 70 cover. The converted bolt pattern looks similar to the 90 PS bolt pattern..?

Just another challenge. Every modification from stock leads to 3 more modifications. Typical.

I ended up using the TRX90 cover and 3” hole saw to make a more open option. But my 90 cover was already cracked south of the countershaft and my 70 chain cover was mangled. So the decision was easy.

That seems like a very good, and very easy option.
For now, I'm going to do nothing. After I get the plastics and all on there, I'll decide if it's worth the hassle to be able to keep the chain guard. I think it would probably look, and work fine without the chain guard. It'll definitely be fine until after I get it out for a couple rides.

My curiosity is up about whether the 90 pullstart can work with the long ATC70 flywheel cover tho. I will certainly have to mess around with some part swapping at the least. Right now I'm betting it's possible.

I'm really close to being able to start mounting the plastics, tank and seat. Woohoo. I look forward to it too.
I'm tired of trying to be good. I just want to put some gas thru this thing...ready or not.

The bolt pattern almost matches up, but I can't get 2 bolts in unless I drill/modify the holes.

2-³/¹6" vs 1-¾"

Other than those 2 problems, I would just need to notch the ATC70 cover for the trigger, then it would work.

So...if I could cut a ⅜" slice off of the front of a ATC70 cover and weld it onto another ATC70 cover...all I would have to do to make a TRX90 pullstart work is drill the holes out bigger.

Another question I had was whether a ATC70 PS cage would bolt up to the TRX flywheel. The answer is...no, not easily at least.

In regards to this post ^^ #84, I need to confirm that the ATC70 cover clears the 12v flywheel before I can really say it will work... I can't check it unless I notch the cover for the trigger, or, mock up a crank, flywheel, and cover...without the stator plate.
I might do that before I hack up a good flywheel cover.

And, BTW...I wouldn't ACTUALLY cut a slice off of a flywheel cover. I would make a spacer out of 3/8" aluminum...very much like the one from spanglers. In fact I think I'll contact them to see if they'll sell that spacer separately...gamble that it would work.

I like this seat pan edging alot. Very flexible and easy to work with, good profile, and holds on...tight enough. You can see the profile on the small piece in my pic.

I've never been real happy with my finished product when I recover a seat tho.
My seat foam had a...dent, that I might have been able to fix if I would (should) have tried. It looked like a heave pipe, or bar had laid on the seat for years...caused a permanent distortion in the foam. It shows some thru the new cover.
And my seat is also a little lumpy looking and maybe a bit lopsided... IDK. It looks good enough I spose.
I was wishing for 4 more pointed tabs on the seat pan too.
Lastly, this cover, on this seat pan, is too loose at the front edge. Maybe I needed to poke the tabs thru ABOVE the bottom...apron seam. Basically stretch the cover tighter, pull the seam down farther, and farther under the pan.
Another note...this cover is made of stretchy vinyl. I don't think CT70 covers are this stretchy.

I didn't get pics of how things get assembled. But I have parts that I could use to show ya, later. I scratched my head a bit figuring it out.
The plastics seem to be pretty nice tho. They mounted up easily enough, and seem pretty stout...look good. Money well spent.

I think I'd be better off replacing the thumb throttle. If I liked it, I was willing to live with the kill switch, but I don't really like it too well. But it IS workin with the stock throttle cable, AND VM20 carb, AND 2" longer frame.

IDK, you might want to take this machine through its paces over some rough terrain, before deciding to scrap the thumb throttle. Short wheelbase and lack of suspension can result in a lot of hobby-horsing motion...that can make a twist grip throttle difficult to control, in some situations.

interesting never knew that was the reason. Only rode one once in a friends gas station parking lot. Pavement was a strange place to see how one worked
