CT 70 Brake light fussy has me scratching my head

Happy Tuesday,

My 1970 CT 70 brake light is doing something strange.

In key position 1, works perfect. Comes on and off like it should.

In key position 2 with headlight on, taillight lights up as running light, perfect so far.

Press rear brake lever, taillight goes off. No brake light.

Tried a different bulb no change. I'm sure the battery is really low. I'm doing the tests above with the bike running.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Dustin

You need a good battery to have a properly functioning tail light. Surprised you didn't blow the headlight bulb yet. The bike needs a good battery to keep the bulbs from popping. Pick up a 6 volt 4AH sealed lead acid battery off ebay for 12.89 shipped.

Thanks a bunch OLD CT, easy enough! I'll get a battery on the way.

I'm guessing it's safe to say the brake light switch is good since the brake does come on in ignition position 1?

I went to eBay searched 6v 4ah and it showed an emergency light battery for 12. 89- this will work ok?

Thanks! I would have never thought of using this type of battery, for fear of the bike overcharging it and creating possible problems.

I will try one-for those prices, what have I got to lose? Is that type of battery avail. as a 12v, and I wonder if one could be used on my old kick start only Triumph?

I have a solid 6 years of use with this type of battery. You would be lucky to get one year from a acid leaker.
First SLA battery I purchased went in the bike in 2003...didn't have to be replaced until 2017...13 riding seasons and 24,000 miles later. Never so much as gave it a top-off charge over winter.
