BTW...the Honda gods had your back on that broken stud...it broke in a good spot. I broke one off right at the engine case once. That engine case is in the "may be scrap" file...with the broken stud still buried in the case.
 
yes to be clear I do have twin 1979 mini trails. One was my moms and the other my uncles. My grandpa bought them brand new for Christmas. My profile pic is my gma on one in the early 80's. I'm just looking to keep this one in near oem form, just looking to cruise around at the 4wd parks. But thanks for all the input, you guys really help out!

I don't think it's wrong at all, seems like your following your plan to enjoy both bikes. Just keep the original parts incase you decide return to original. There your bikes, do what's necessary to enjoy and preserve the family history.
