Honda z50 1969 bogs down when hot

Hi,

am trying to make my z50 1969 project work well before starting a bigger restoration.
The engine starts well, idle well, these are the goods.
On the cons side, when i open full throttle it tends to bog a bit and then accelerate and usually after 3 - 4 mins running the bike full throttle, it just stops and have to wait for the engine to cool down a bit to start again.
I cleaned the carb, change the spark, check the points (they are like now). Any idea ?

Thanks

Thanks. I did the valve, it is much better now when i open throttle when cold, not bogging. But still have this weird issue, the bike runs well for 4 - 5 minutes, and then die, eventually get back if i put the choke on.

I would set the valves at .002intake and .003exhaust.
My HK1 did have a somewhat similar issue when I first got its rebuilt motor going. Turned out to be running way lean, but it would do that at all temps. Since your having to use the choke, I would say its running lean.

The pilot jet is clogged and these bikes need 10 solid minutes of idling before you jump on it and nail the gas.
I recommend replacing the pilot jet. I never could ''carefully clear'' a clogged pilot jet, it's a waste of time. Remove the brass emulsion tube that the main jet sits on top of and clear the tiny passages on it also.

Adjust the valves, clean jets, check your float level, good flow to carb from tank. Plenty of warmup time.

cool, thanks, i did all of the below, and now running great ! i think had several issues, def the valve helped, float level as well, and the jets cleaning can t hurt!
think that now the engine is running well, ready to start a deeper restoration, the first one for me
