What is going on everyone? I hope as is well during these crazy moment in life? So I found out in January that my dad is going to be retiring around Labor Day this year. I figured why not build him a Candy Sapphire Blue CT70 just like the one he bought new in 1969. So far, the frame and swing arm have been dipped and pickeled at American Metal Cleaning in Toledo, Ohio. I have ordered almost every part possible from CHP, Dratv, Northeast Honda, and some old parts from EBay. I have decided to put the 88cc kit from CHP in the engine for more power for the big guy. If you haven’t seen these kits, they look stock even down to the carb which is great. I did not want some goofy carb hanging off the side of the engine. I want everything to look the part. I also bought the performance KO exhaust from them that looks just like the original. Here’s where things get interesting. So not sure if anyone on here has done this or not? I took the Ct70 motor and combined it with a Atc70 motor. The motor is now a 4 speed auto clutch with a kit start. The engine has been completely gone through. I blasted the cases then vapor honed them. More to come!

Are you sure that head will work? It looks like a typical cheapo china wrong dome, ebay head. You didn't post a pic of the dome, just pics of the outside. Hopefully it's part of the CHP kit.

Ok, update on the progress. The CHP kit comes with a cheap metal gasket to go between the head and cylinder. The gasket is a LOT thinner than the fabric/composite one we all normally see. All of this being said, the acorn nuts got blown out. When trying to do a test run on the donor bike it started leaking oil. The kit also came with the rubber oil rings which we installed also. So needless to say, I ordered the 88cc gasket kit from TBparts.

I will be taking off the ATC70 flywheel and putting on a HKO flywheel. I could run the gasket for a ATC70 in between the flywheel cover and the case but I do no want to do that.

They got blown out? The studs pop out the top of them?? That metal gasket shouldn't cause that to happen. Some would say that gasket is BETTER than the common fiber one.
Did you use the correct thick washers too?

To answer all your questions, yes we did. The metal gasket is just to thin. Put the new gaskets in, everything works and looks as normal. The CHP big bore kit is nice but, after talking it over with my buddies the TBparts one is a better set up.

It would appear that chp head might just be a tad bit shorter than a original head. Maybe that's why Lifan 70's use tall head nuts also. I wouldn't blame the metal head gasket. It still looks like the studs are still proud. It would look a ton better with the chrome Lifan 70cc-140cc headnuts. Just my 2c.

Good luck with the restomod. Just remember, I'm here to help, if needed. These projects can be more enjoyable when done for a family member. My Dad loves his restored Candy Ruby Red 69' CT70K0.

I put regular nuts on it currently. My buddy and Tracy over at Lil bikes restorations swear by the the TBparts 88cc kit. Maybe next time. The chp 88cc kit runs and sounds great on the test stand. Bill, you are correct and I try to go through dratv (zip baggies), northeast, csml and so on. You know I have no trouble restoring parts to use, but like you said some are hard to come by. I have a couple speedos I’m about to do and chp has parts to restore them I just question the correctness..... thoughts?

I just want my dad to be blown away by it and see the hard work put into it for him.

I removed the roached swing arm bushings. Planning to take the frame, fork housing, and swing arm to IPS in Romulus, MI on Monday to having one more stripping process and ecoat before paint. I bought the 3 stage candy sapphire blue paint from VMR yesterday. Has anyone used their paints yet? I have not searched the forum about it.

Also, took a Mitsubishi H fly wheel took out the mechanical advance and used a CDI stator base. All of this will fit under a stock cover as you all know. The motor has already been ran on a test stand and operates flawlessly.

Yeah, I've always hated the way they assembled the petcock too.
That thing looks like its powered by CHP. That upside down petcock is a dead giveaway. I also can't stand how they slap their logo anywhere they can.
I have a oem carb I could rebuild and jet to the same specs. Mind you this is not a concours restoration. I want to present a very nice bike to my dad. I do agree with the petcock and the logos going on everything, it sucks.
