Overflow valve question for K0 CARB

The overflow needle, inside the bowl...isnt that supposed to be free flowing..?

As i cleaned and blew out areas of the carb that needle or pin doesnt seem to flow. Maybe it's crud in it and I'll need to use a fine wire to free it..but wanted to make sure it's not a sophisticated miniture valve that only opens if triggered. :39:

That tube should be free flowing or "open", so if the bike is accidently tipped on its side it will flow gas. There is no valve in it however the external drain knob on the bottom of the carb float bowl empties the float bowl through the same drain tube.
I've used a wire many times to clean that overflow passage when I've had these carbs apart.
Bottom line: it should not hurt the carb or anything in this area to run a wire through it, if done in a careful manner.
