I just picked up a pair of z50's, I thought one was a 1970 and the other is a 1971, well then I looked up some info on the specific years and one of the bikes doesn't really fit the description of a 1970 K1, so help please, this is the bike in question, ok for starters it has a battery, it has the round Honda wing tank emblem, and it has the H on the headlight bucket, and the serial number and engine number start with 16xxxxxx, so it leads me to believe it's a 69-70, but the color is ruby red on top of white, not silver, and I was lead to believe on those years the silver was supposed to be on top, I suppose someone could have swapped tanks or maybe repainted it but if that's the case they matched everything really well, Also no I'd tag on it but I did get titles for both bikes and it says 1970, I just can't find anywhere where they made that year in that color, Has anyone else seen this? I will post up some pics in the am

The red one is a 69/70 Z50A K1. The tank has been repainted.

    The blue one is a 70/71 Z50A K2.

Very sure by the VIN number on the K1 that its a silver tag. It wont have a build date stamped in but, it was built in 1969.

Ok thanks, after hearing that the red bike may be a silver tag I became curious about another Z50 I bought 2 years ago, it's been sitting in my hangar collecting dust, I had my son in law run over and take a picture of the tag for me, and here it is, 0230d717187570d44e71e426bf8656c8.jpg

dude you got some gems. that's a nice find, both the old one and the 'new to you' ones. i have a silvertag, but it's only the frame, motor and front forks. i feel like piecing it together will cost me more than i can afford right now. thankfully, being a 50, it has a nice place on our garage shelf next to the snowboard boots and the 40 cup coffee percolator.

Titles! I'm envious. Ya, darrel is right. It's a silver tag. But if it came with a title that said '70 - I'd call it a '70. These things have a date code behind the VIN on the axle plate. It'll be there if a thrown chain didn't eat it off. On the K2 it might be a week or two before the steering tube tag date.
The K2 would look good cleaned up the way it is. K1 needs a lot of help.
    Great score
