1969 Silver tag brake lever question

So I’m starting a restoration on a 1969 ct70 silver tag that’s been in my family since new. Been in storage for almost 40 years now. I had a mechanic overhaul the engine and it’s running good so I’m moving on to other stuff. So my question is about brake levers… I know the silver tag CT was known for having black plastic brake levers. Mine is missing the left lever but the right one is metal(with black tip). Does anyone know of any cases where the silver tags had metal brake levers? There is no doubt in my mind this bike is all original as it’s been in my families possession it’s whole life and Every other silver tag indicator is there. I’m just trying to make sure that I am restoring it properly. Thanks!

I'm not the knowledge base you require here but someone will I suspect jump in . You may be best to show the vin on the frame neck and motor just to allow a better history check - especially since the guard is off . That will help verify serial and changes that should be present on that particular bike .
There a knowledgable bunch here

WarnerSteel has developed, over the years, a log of the silvertag numbers. He'd be interested in seeing these.

Judging from the condition of the bars, I'd say those plastic levers were replaced fairly quickly with the metal ones. I bet those broke pretty easily.

I would have guessed that only the first 6 or 8000 CT70s made, got the plastic levers...108000 and below. But, Partzilla shows a part change at 186000+-. So now I'm not too sure. Hopefully someone will chime in with some good info for you.
It WILL be helpful if you would tell us the vin#. Maybe at least the first 4 digits.

I'm thinkin Partzilla has a typo in there. They show the silvertag muffler up to frame #118605.
Maybe the levers should show that same number...but it shows 186006.
Some of the other parts show 108375...and that is about where I was guessing.

Haha..yeah the bars are toast..been trying to find a good quality replacement pair but Everyone seems to be out of stock. You’re probably right about the levers being replaced though

The Engine is 108403 and the Frame 107721, so both fairly early…

What month of production does your head tag say or is that not printed on silver tags? I’m surprised the frame and motor numbers are aliready 682 off that early in production ….. if my math is correct..?

Thanks @cjpayne for the tag.

The lever on this bike has definitely been replaced. It would have had black plastic levers from Honda. All literature I’ve seen states the levers changed at the 186,000 mark, but I’m a little skeptical of that number. It’s pretty rare to find a bike with a VIN higher than 140,000 that has plastic levers.
Your engine is original to the bike. I own a bike that was built the same day, #107416 and my engine number is 108161.

I am in a restoration of a 1969 ct70 (not a sliver tag) but a vin#125xxx … do you think it came with an should have black plastic levers? does anyone still sell the black plastic levers?

Hi Mike ,
I just bought a 69 silver tag Z50. Would my bike have come with black levers ? Frame # 130019 ? Thank you for any insight my friend,
Thank you , Steve
