1970 carb dip cleaning help asked. My nasty carb.

I have begun minor restoration on my 1970 Christmas present. Removed the carb, which hasn't run since the mid 90's. Much dirtier and nastier than I expected (hoped for). Some Youtube videos talk about dip cleaning carburetors in a basket affair. I believe that's what's going to be needed. Spray carb cleaner barely touches the crud in the bowl and nooks and crannies. Below is a picture of the disassembled carb. I have a rebuild kit from DrATV. Some questions please:

Please tell me what product I can buy to dip/soak my carb. And what's a good way to clean after soaking?

I cannot figure out how the throttle sleeve is attached to the throttle cable and don't want to damage the sleeve trying different things. I'll be getting new cables.

Is the screen at the intake replaceable?

Thanks as always. Don

Your carb will clean up fine. I've been able to clean some that looked a lot worse.
Get a can of Berrymans Chem Dip at the auto parts store. Let it soak for an hour and it should be good.
Warning....don't forget about it and let it soak overnight. It's not pretty. I made that mistake once.
Rinse with water and use an air gun to dry it.

Pull the spring up out of the slide and remove the clip. Then you can remove the cable from the slide.

You can pry the screen out of the carb...carefully. Not sure if new ones are available or not.

You probably won't find a new inlet screen. Is your old one ok? Or is it damaged? I usually use a long bent flat blade screwdriver to PUSH them out from the opposite end of the carb...pushing only against the outer ring. You have to slowly work all the way around them, pushing(moving it a little at a time. So you push it out straight. If you can get it out with no damage, you can reshape the screen and put it back in.
If you need a screen, someone will have one for you.

thank you. Some where along the line the screen got damaged a little. I seem to remember it happening decades ago. Didn't happen this time I know. I'll see if the dip comes in smaller cans too. Thanks again! Don
Oh. Is there risk of dissolving the metal of the carb if left too long? I haven't messed with dip cleaner before. And is the Gunk brand, which I see a little less expensive, as effective for this application as the Berryman brand? Don
