1970 Honda CT70 $150.00 Craigslist find.

Hello,

I found what I felt was like a good deal on Craigslist.
- One 1970 CT70 frame, wheels, all hardware.
- Two identical stock motors. Almost a complete bike, about 89-92% complete.
- Brand new Clymers manual.
150.00 Bucks

*Needs carb, gastank, seat cover. (have good foam)

Saw it and I dove in... quite refreshing...

However, I have little experience rebuilding small engines and could use some help.

I've been working on tearing down this bike for a complete rebuild as the head is seized up on the first motor. I wish now, that I would have taken some pictures before tearing it down...

This is the first motor

Here is a shot of the second motor

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

I had to make a quick judgement call on the spot as the seller was sure to have other takers.

I'm sure glad I ended up taking him up on his offer!

..One hell of a project, but gives me a great reason to get out of the house on these sunny days.

I think the best part is having two motors, so I can get one running (stock) and build the other up while I get the feel for what I want improved. YES!

Everything appears to be amazingly free of rust in those pix, screaming deal.:whoo:

Yeah, especially considering this bike has spent it's whole life in rainy Washington.

:38:Yeaha. Once again I'm jealous. Good find.

...yeah, then nine days after I got this... I missed five ct70's for 275.00 on CL!!! ... I was bummed.. ...second caller... =(

... guess I just couldn't get that lucky, but I'm happy with my find for now.

Good find and the seller has already done all the teardown work!

Yeah basically all the little stuff on the frame was down already. The motor however was untouched, which I like. Now I get to do that work personally, and assure everything is where it needs to be.

Thats a good find, the Clymers alone is 30-40 bones, good to see those deals are still out there!

you know.... to tell the truth.. not having any experience...
..that was the selling point. The manual was literally brand new. No oil marks or creases. I though the same thing... "this alone is worth 40 bucks"

You must live in a different part of Washington (Tacoma area) than I do. I didn't see any of those deals. I did however pick this one up about 3 months ago for $350.

7/70 Honda CT-70H Emerald Green
Frame #: CT70H -123238
Engine #: CT70HE -123145

Doesn't run, but has all the stuff. Compared to my other finds, this is almost done by comparison.

Nice find!

I'm up in B-ham, lots of hidden gems in this area... out by Mt. Baker... gotta look daily though... The five ct's posting was "deleted by author" less than one hour from posting. I was lucky to have even seen it, and I work from home while monitoring CL frequently. Just waitin to find my "barn" It's up here... Just a matter of searching it out.

That's funny you said that. I picked up some great frames and parts from a guy down here who bought a boat load from a closed Honda shop in the B-ham area? I mean, a BOAT LOAD! He paid like $1,000 for all of it and I bet there was 30 bikes in this thing.

Good luck. If you find any you don't want let me know. :24:

She needs some love, but I'm SOooo happy to have a running CT.

I'm in to the hobby for 530.00 dollars now, and have 2 almost complete bikes.

YES!

your 69 ct is pretty nice for the price, I paid that much for my 82 and it needed a bunch of stuff no title and a lot of work.

Thanks jayblu, I was able to talk the guy down from the 600.00 he wanted for it.

This one will need some seat work, and carb love. But other than that runs decent. Hauled me several miles away and home again just yesterday.

Yeah, but I'm askin' myself....
How good of a deal is it when the thing bursts into flames after one day of use....

... I guess I have to take responsibility for not taking the necessary time to ensure safety...
bah...
...good thing I had a "Tundra" ready...At my place, I have these things stashed everywhere!!

If you don't have this in your "riding gear" I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! After this experience I will never again leave without one of these on my bike.

Here's a link

I know you might be thinking this thing won't cut it... but, I will tell you from multiple experiences they work MUCH better than expected.

about 12 bucks at HD, and lightweight. Saved my ct from complete loss..
