1971 CT70 - What to do?

A while ago I came across this 71 CT70 which I bought for my grand nephew. His parents have decided not a good idea so its sitting in my shop. Here are a couple pics. Seems to be all original except somewhere along the way the battery was removed. Probably an EZ fix. Anyways trying to decide if its worth a full concourse restoration or if I should just get it running and sell it. Any thoughts on whether its worthy? I have the carb, just removed for cleaning. Also came with an NOS exhaust. 1708 miles on the clock. Title in hand.

I totally agree with lukelaw1,,,the paint is way to good to restore it..if you want to restore one buy a junker,,there only original paint once. Your bike is a survivor, all it needs is the correct red top rear shocks that you could buy used on eBay for around $40 to $80 for the all original unmolested look with your nos exhaust pipe installed.

I 2nd that idea that @lukelaw1 has suggested. The bike seems to be really nice, so get it running and enjoy it.

A concours restoration can and will get VERY expensive given there are so many OEM parts that have been long discontinued and are extremely hard to find NOS. To me, the bike would have to be very sentimental, rare or highly desirable on the resale market to warrant this type of restoration, but ultimately it's a matter of personal preference and budget of course. I have a K1 that has been in my family since new and I have fully restored over the course of many years, slowly collecting NOS parts when I find them, but my gathering list is nearly complete, but it will always be missing that "one unicorn" part of some sort, ie a seat....decals....side badges. They can only be original once, no matter how well it has been restored. I would never go to this level of restoration on another CT70 unless it had a truly unique history or story. All that said, there are LOTS of very very nice reproduction parts available now for the K0 to K1 bikes and you can make one absolutely stunning if you're willing to put the time and money into it.

Bike is far from original. Lots of incorrect fasteners, exhaust, grab handle, bars, bar knobs, shocks, stator cover, hi/Lo switch, etc….just at first glance.

If it’s not something you’re wanting to keep, get it running and sell it as is.
