I do have the aftermarket top clamp. I have the original top clamp as well and the aftermarket handle bars fit the original top clamp. Just the aftermarket handle bars don't have the holes to route the original hand control wiring. So I'd have to take measurements off the originals and drill the needed wiring holes.

Some of the aft bars don't fit correctly into the Honda clamp, and will damage it some. I'd take a hard look at how they fit into it. If they don't fit well, use the aft clamp rather than damage the original.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to make sure to check the fitment on the aftermarket handle bars.

Drilling the cheap bars would make an already weak bar, dangerous. Dratv has oem dax bars. Not as nice of a set of original 77 bars, naturally a ''different bend'' but available. One side does have a perch and that can be easily ground off.

Thanks for the heads-up. I still haven't quite decided what direction I want to go for the handle bars. But I would like to use the original hand controls if possible.

I have a rider set of bars from a 76-78 that I would be willing to part with. They are reasonably straight, good threads but have a few cosmetic flaws. $100 + shipping. If you're interested, will post up some pics so you can see the good and the bad.

Here are pics. The best way I can describe these bars is functional, solid mechanically, but don't look the best.

@allenp42 thank you for the very generous offer. I'll definitely keep it in consideration. As the project progresses.

Tonight I was comparing the aftermarket handlebar to the factory one and it is pretty similar in rake (my stock handlebar is tweaked a bit), though not in height. The aftermarket seems to fit about as well as the original to the original mount. I compared the two handlebars O.D. and wall thickness and they were very close (within fractions of a mm). I think I'm going give drilling the aftermarket bars a shot. Worst case, I wreck a cheap set of handlebars.

Reminds me of K-pro stuff when I was a kid. K-pro catchers mitt...tennis shoes, etc.

Than engine might have a rotary shift drum. You can shift past 4th, thru neutral, and then first gear again...maybe when you're rolling at 50mph. (1st is bad at 50mph.) :)

Yeah I think it does have a rotary shift pattern. Looking at the side cover. Not sure why a pattern like that would even be a thing.

Does anyone know the length of a top motor mounting bolt? I'm trying to locally source a bolt and I've got a 115mm and a 120mm but both seem a bit short when fitting in the frame. A 125mm seems like it would be perfect, but I haven't found one locally yet.

I'm still alive. Just been prioritizing some other projects lately. I now "technically" have a roller. Though I'm missing the rear spacers, rear brake drum hardware, and rear axel castle nut. I figure the best way to know what I'm missing is to try to assemble it and keep a list of what parts I don't have. This bike will nickle and dime me to death in all the little items, before I'm done. But that's what I get for trying to make a complete bike out of something that is really a parts bike at best. Lol I've have everything I need to do the seat recover. Just need to get into a shop's queue.

I've got what looks to be a 16mm carb that came in my menagerie of parts with my basket case. Took the bowl off and it is cruddy but not aweful. Just the usual abandonment issues. Old fuel and some corrosion, but nothing is seized up on the carb. Is it worth rebuilding if I'm planning on using a 125cc engine. Or is this carb just too small/restrictive. Most of the aftermarket Chinese carbs I've seen look to be 22mm. Everyone's thoughts and comments are always appreciated. Thanks

Picked this up the other night pretty cheap. Was leaking gas profusely from the carb. It wouldn't start, which helped me get it cheaper. Once I got it home, took the carb apart and gave it a quick clean. Put it back together and it still leaks profusely, bad bowl gasket. Originally was going to rob the engine and wiring for the old basket case CT70. But it is decent enough I might try to resell. It actually runs pretty good, once the fuel leaks below the top of the bowl. Lol I'm torn on what to do with it. Hard to pass up a cheap running engine. But it is only a 49cc and it has electric start. I'm not wild about the electric start, but it does have kick as well. I guess I'll fiddle with it more and decide what to do.

I'm thinking of using a K0 plastic gas tank in my '77. Does anyone know if the gas tank filler neck grommet is the same between the plastic and metal tanks?

There different as well as the metal part that the grommet goes into.. the hole is a different size..
Thanks @Robert thran. In that case it make most sense to put a metal tank back in the bike. Was hoping to avoid future rust issues, but as long as I store the bike properly. That shouldn't be an issue. Thanks again.
