1981 Honda C90 Super Cub Deluxe

Hello lil Honda group,

Last week I found my dream bike that I have been searching for, for a couple years now. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been looking for a relatively cheap or affordable C70 passport becasue that's usually all I see that goes up for sale that looks like a super cub. I was on offerup last week and saw a faint picture of what looked like a super cub or passport in its beautiful classic red/white colorway. As I was inspecting the bike on my phone, I noticed it was a C90, I havent seen one for sale in the states, does anyone know if they ever produced these here? Anyways, I called the guy immediately because it was listed at $1400 with only 6,000 miles on it. I jumped on the post and met up with him the next day. He spoke 100% spanish, he bought the bike in Mexico and brought it over here to Los Angeles when he moved here and never registered it. I got him to lower the price to $1250 which i personally think is an absolute steal. I have all of the paperwork from mexico and we drew up a bill of sale. Wish me luck registering it! Also, I am okay with not registering it, keeping it in my collection and restoring it properly over time, as it is such a beautiful bike. I filled it up yesterday for 2$ and rode around my neighborhood for a few hours. Taking it to the mechanic soon to take a look at it.

I saw that bike on offer up as well and it looked like a deal, except for the fact it didn't have clean title. You'll have to jump through some hoops to get it registered, but it's not impossible. You'll really want to be legal so you can put around and show it off. You could even meet up with Nate and me for a ride. Did you see the clean black '67 CB160 twin. That bike is a honey, but a little pricey.

Couldn't you go thru Vermont to get a CA title also?? Seems like when CA makes it so difficult, folks would just go thru Vermont.

I don't think the fact that it's an '81 would be a problem. A call to the DMV would answer that question. The fact that it's a complete bike and you have some paperwork will work in your favor. I've done this three times with bikes with no paperwork and it wasn't impossible, just a pain. You'll need to do three things:
1. Go to the DMV with everything you have. You'll need to fill out a statement of facts, fill out a bunch of other forms, and pay some fees.
2. Then you'll have to make an appointment with the CHP to get the frame and engine number verified. Last time I did this, I had to wait six months for an appointment.
3. After that, just take all your paperwork back to the DMV, probably pay some more fees, but you'll walk out of there with a license plate and current registration.

It's been many years since the last time I went through this rigamarole, but I remember they all were very helpful at both the DMV and CHP.

Thanks for the helpful info. I talked to 2 different DMV ppl before I bought it and they said the same thing. I’m in no rush to register it, I started the process of getting the forms together. The people at the DMV said it’s doable. If it’s not, I’ll either keep it in my collection or restore and flip it

SCORE ! .
I was looking for one of these for years, only ever found out of state and beat to death .

These were never sold in the U.S.A. but being this old registration is a snap .

I don't know, maybe the bench seat from a C70 ? . of course you'd lose the rack .

I have three CM91's, these being the impossible to sell 1960's version of your bike there .

I used to ride them every where, even to Death Valley and back again .

Thats what I was thinking too. I would also try and use the c70 rack becasue I think those look cool. But, also debating on trying to buy a proper c90 seat and rack from thailand or uk. It's just expensive-ish.

If available new and factory I'd try hard to afford it .

Failing that keep an eye out for a C70 here in the U.S.A., they're out there, usually unloved / unwanted and at least 50 % of them are red .

I'm sure you can make one fit without too much trouble. There's quite a few on ebay, going price is about $100, There's one used one with a new cover for $60 and $34 to ship, and accepting offers, fyi.
