2 Questions: Throttle cable length, stuck gear

Howdy all - brand new to the world of Mini's. I got a '72 CT70 K1 several months ago, and I'm almost done restoring it. It's been a lot of fun.

Question 1: For the '72 CT70, the throttle cables I've purchased seem too short. What should the free wire length be on the correct sized cable? I'm having a rough time figuring it out! (I am not using OEM styled handle bars with an internal throttle mechanism, I'm stuck with external, after market throttle control for now)

Question 2: When I got the CT it was in neutral. I haven't started it since I've had it, but somehow it got into gear and I can't get it out. The engine is in great shape, and the only thing I did was replace the ball retainer on the inside. Is it possible this is the cause of the gears being stuck? I'm about to pop off the side of the engine and review what I've done (wrong...)

Thanks!

(attached a pic of the bike - it's almost there. I can feel the wind running through my thinning hair already! :) )

This may be silly, but I assume you lifted the shifter up?
Try rocking back & forth as well while shifting up

There is a sticky thread at the top of this tech forum written in detail by CJPayne. I would review it and go through the steps meticulously as you open up your clutch cover and reinstall it. It’s definitely helped me in the past. 👍 Maybe it’s time to replace your clutch plates if they are old and worn while your in there?
