2022 Monkey in Stock Locally

A local dealer has a 2022 Monkey in stock with ABS for an advertised price of $4199. My son has a 2021 and it's ajoy to ride. It's so much smoother, more comfortable, and more solid riding than my CT70, albeit not faster, I certainly wouldn't mind having one. But since the new ones have a more powerful 125 and the additional 5th gear, it makes it even more desireable. Has anyone out there ridden one? I'm going down there on Tues and if it's still in stock, and if their ADM is not more than a couple of hundred bucks, I think I'll have to buy it. Opinions?

Found a dealer in LA with a '22 Monkey in stock and went down there to check it out. Now I understand that the law of supply and demand results in some extra profit, but a $1500 ADM (additional dealer markup is downright greedy). The bike lists for $4199, tax and license work out to about another 10% so $4600-$4700 should be the out the door price. I sat down with the salesman and he came up with $6495 out the door. I said don't you think that an ADM of over 35% is kinda pushing it. He said that it's a very hard to get model, blah blah blah... and he asked if I was willing to make an offer he could run past his boss. So I said if you'd sell it to me for $5400 out the door, I would pay you in hundred dollar bills today. So he had me sign a piece of paper to that effect and went to see his boss. He came back and asked if we had any wiggle room, and I said no, thanks, and have a nice day.

6495 out the door means buy a full size ''new'' bike for a little more coin, instead. If you are hellbent on a 5 speed Monkey wait for a low mile used one to pop up in the very near future.

I already have two full sized bikes, and I don't need or have the room for another one. And used year old Monkeys are selling for over the list price when they were new. Even 6 year old Groms are still going for over $3000. I'm in no rush, still have my two Li'l Hondas. These new Hondas come from Thailand, so I bet there's containers full of them sitting at the Long Beach Harbor. Eventually, I will find a dealer who needs the sale and isn't quite so greedy. Maybe on the last day of the month, they'll need a sale to make a quota. The dealer I was at today had about 60 bikes and 20 side by sides in the showroom, and I was the only customer there.

Unfortunately, cash isn't always king... Dealers make big on financing too.

Keep searching and good luck.

There is a real nice 2021 with 6 miles, never registered on Long Island Craigslist. It has several expensive quality upgrades like a yoshi exhaust and Ohlins front fork kit and rear shocks. 4000 or best offer. ROAD TRIP!

Then pay up.:) I would grab that 4000 dollar 2021 and put a 5 speed Takegawa in for less than 500 for everything to do the job.

Thanks, but the whole point is buying a new factory 100% Honda. I already have two Li'l old Hondas that are faster, cruder, less comfortable, and scarier at speed. I really enjoy riding my son's 2021 Monkey, with it's electric start, fuel injection, 150 mpg, comfortable seat, disc brakes, and stability at speed. The one thing I hear a lot from owners is that it's geared too tall and a smaller countershaft increases top speed. I expect the 5 speed to be geared for top speed in 4th and 5th for relaxed cruising. By the way, a dealer in central CA has one he'll sell me for $5500 out the door. The price is close to what I'll pay, but it'll cost me a day and $150 in gas to drive up and get it. So I'll bide my time, and eventually the right deal will come along.

The dealers are probably loving it, price gouging, less overhead, less salesmen to pay, more profit. Can't wait to see when the Navi's hit the showrooms, $1800 bike they'll be selling for double.
