Vapor blasting WILL alter the as cast finish, but it does look good, IMO. The next thing I will try though is Walnut from a dedicated cabinet. Been using soda when I have too.

No, it's wet blasting...still uses glass beads, which are far harder than metal. The water softens the effect, in much the same way as grinder's grease does, with metalfinishing. Metal is still removed, the surface is changed/profiled, just with finer scratches. In both cases, the surface finish is permanently altered.
