I just found this and am going to try and pick it up this weekend or Friday evening. I'm am so excited I could crap myself. A guy got this for some money that was owed him. It was found on an old dairy farm. It is about 2hrs from me and I've practicly stole it for the price. The carb is missing(I have the exact model) and the rear hub assembly(I have one, haha). It is basicly unmolested and not defaced. It has 482 original miles. The motor is not locked up. The combustion chamber is probably history, but I'm crossing my fingers. The seat pan has no cracks and the foam is good. Has original toolkit. Has original keys. Paint is dusty/dirty, but is still decent. Turn knobs are not locked up. This is what I've been looking for!!!!!!:8::4::16: IMO, this model and color is the most desired of the CT70's. My K1 may have just become a parts bike:19:. I just need to get there with the money before someone else scarfs it up and parts it out. Wish me luck.

Don't tempt me Tripod!!!LOL. I've talked to my older brother and he said he'd loan me the money and help me go pick it up. I'd like to leave right now. I just hope it's got the Hitachi flywheel.

Hate to cause you stress CJ, but I agree. The good ones tend to disappear. Buyer #2 stands in front of him and offers $50 more... You want to get in in your garage as soon as possible. Then it will be yaus fa sho!

    Chett...it's only 2 hours away(!)

Lose a little sleep now and go get it after work, ASAP...before you end up losing a lot more sleep, maybe kicking yourself later.

I just called the guy and he's working late. He said he will call me back. He was supposed to call me anyway if he got another offer, but he didn't, so things are looking good so far. Will post back about final arrangements.

Thank the Good Lord, he called back and is expecting me Friday evening. My brother prepared his minivan and the straps are in my trunk!!! Wooohoooo!!!!

Is there anything special about the H's I should look for? I'm still hoping it has the Hitachi flywheel. The current owner doesn't really know anything about these bikes, so I really don't want him tearing into anything, but he seems like a very decent fella.
BTW, he said the VIN date is 9/71. Never had the plastic tank in a bike before.lol

I will say that I got it for half his asking price and I don't have to pay 100's for shipping charges. I haven't seen it personally and I'm sure there might be a couple surprises, I've got a real good idea how much it's parts are worth(I could easily sell/ship the forks and get my money back), and it's exactly the model and original color I've always wanted. As far as I'm concerned, I practicly stole it. I offered a price and the guy immediately accepted. My 3speed auto K1, to me, is better for my kids and offroad, but not for the backroading I usually do. I'm glad the back wheel is gone, because I'm sure it warded off any other potential buyers that don't want to do any work and want basicly somethin' for nothin'.lol

Its going to be a loooong 3 days for you. Doesn't look too faded so hopefully it hasn't sat outside much. With that low of miles it should clean up nicely.

I wouldn't worry about the alternator flavor. Yeah, the Hitachi is more common and easier to service. Still, the Mits isn't exactly the K.O.D. Absolute worst case, you could swap-in an Hitachi alternator assembly and at any time; it'd be plug & play. You just need to get the flywheel & complete stator assembly to do it. There are also CDI conversion kits to consider. And...a complete Mitsubishi alternator, in decent shape, is still a salable commodity.

IMO, the biggest victory is an engine with so little mileage. That all but guarantees a tight lower end, healthy gears, shift forks & crankshaft assembly. IOW, smooth/crisp shift quality and lots of happy miles ahead. Even if it sat with one valve open and now needs an overbore + valve job, due to rust, it's still an opportunity to own a virtually-new H-motor. In the grand scheme of things, the WCS really isn't all that much work, bucks or replacement parts.

I was figuring the Hitachi setup would be a plug n play. If it has the Mitsu setup I'm sure I could sell/trade for parts. I would imagine that the stator assembly/flywheel are in pretty good shape. The head has to definitely come off as so with the clutch cover. I just remembered I have a spinner cover gasket and carcass of a 4speed clutch I got from mips(joseph) some time back. I REALLY hope the combustion chamber/head can be saved. Crossing my fingers on that one.
The low mileage came as a real surprise to me and I also thought the cable could be broke, but I don't see bent bars and signs of high mileage and abuse. No one seems to know why the hub and carb are missing though. I would really like to know why this bike was parked/used this way. Probably some kid did it, who knows. I hope I remember to ask the guy if it's possible to go to the old dairy farm where it was found to see if the parts are still laying around where it was stored. Probably a long shot, but can't hurt to ask.

Probably needed a tire/rim for a wheelbarrow, and carb for a lawnmower. These bikes don't mean nearly has much to some people as they do to the members of this forum. Were ya able to sleep lastnight?

LOL, no telling what bizarre or practical reason it was. I actually did sleep pretty well once I had talked to the guy again.

I would think someone got a flat, removed the rim with intentions to repair the tire and it was never fixed and ''lost interest in the bike'' and lost the rim/tire along the way.
