'77 CT70 Ignition Switch

First of all, Hello everyone! I hope to help everyone as much as possible, but I need some help of my own first.
I've been restoring a '77 trail 70 I found in a barn, and I have no key for it. Ive been to every key site, and no one has my key for sale anymore. Since I'm replacing lights, and getting a tag, I need an ignition that actually works. Does anyone know of a website that sells my ignition type, or what other types will fit(and where to get them as well)? Thank you for your time!

Welcome aboard!

Assuming that Mark over at hondakeys.com can't help you, your only alternatives are sourcing a used `77-`78 switch, with keys, or a new switch for an earlier model. That second option will require some minor wiring conversion, on your end. It'll also leave you with the ability to switch the lights on/off, instead having them on all the time.

I stopped by a local Honda dealer with my '79 ignition switch. They sent me tp their service dept, where they had 100's ofpld keys. Took me 20 minutes of trying, but finally found a match! Only charged 10 bucks. That might be worth a try.

As RacerX had mentioned, Mark @ Honda Keys.com Your source for NOS Honda Keys has never let me down. I'm not sure about 1977 models but, earlier models have a "HXXXX" on the ignition switch which represents the key code. If you give Mark the year built, make, model, and key code, he can ship you the right key to fit your bike.

That was my problem. My code reads BF031H????? Everybody said it must be an aftermarket switch, but the Honda key I found fit. The Service Manager, who has been a Honda Mechanic for 30 years didn't even recognize the numbers. Got lucky I guess.

I've known Mark at Hondakeys.com for years now, he's good people. I also meet with him face-to-face periodically. According to him, the later the bike, the rarer the keys. Sales numbers dropped-off precipitously after 1973, leaving fewer bikes and far fewer model-year-specific parts available. You may be out of luck and have to improvise. But, it's still too early to throw in the towel. All you need is one key and there could just as easily be an NOS example just waiting for you to meet its owner.

Thant you all for the replies! Sadly, I've tried mark and he doesn't have my key. But, I will go to my dealer and ask about keys. If that deosn't work out, I may just have to use a k3 ignition for it. Thanks guys!

In order for anyone here to help you...we'll need to know the exact switch that you bought. Then we can compare the diagrams from both switches, to see what's different.
And...Welcome to lilhonda!

Also, if you have the original switch, even if it's broken...it might help if we could see some really good, close, pictures of the back side...where the wires solder on.
