I am redoing the wiring for a CT70 motor on a 79 z50r. I am ordering a stator kit with harness. Can I just order the z50r harness and stator kit for this motor? I am not going to use accessories, I just need spark for the motor to run. Also, will a z50r ignition coil work for a ct70 motor?

For a 79 the ignition coil should swap over. I recall the z50 coil I had being a slightly different design, as it bolted under the seat, and maybe the secondary lead was longer. If you just want spark, then order the z50r stator/harness. Flywheels were identical from what I can remember. And the z50 essentially omitted the lighting/charging coil and had just the "ignition" side. One wire. Very simple. From what I'm thinking, two wires going to the handlebars, with the kill switch being the important factor, and the other side isolated to the coil. All it needs is a good ground to the kill switch, which should be closed in the "off" position and open in the "run". This setup makes a Ct70 stator and harness look like rocket science. Keep it simple.... good luck merry Christmas

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and ordered the z50 wiring kit to make it simple.
