'81 C70 Passport Oil Capacity

The manual for my '81 C70 says it should take a little more than .6 qts when I change the oil. However, according to the dipstick it is full with just a little over .3 qts? Has anyone else noticed this problem? Should I trust the dipstick or should I trust the manual and put in .6 qts+ regardless what's showing on the dipstick?

Maybe post a few pics of you bike and engine. That doesn't sound right to me...but I'm not familiar with C70s.
Remove the dipstick and show us a pic of that too. I'm wondering if you have the wrong dipstick in there..?

Here are some pictures of my C70, engine and dipstick. However, after I found an owners manual on ebay and actually read it I realize that you don't screw the dipstick in to check the oil level. I’ve always assumed that you screw in and then unscrew the dipstick to check the oil level. I wonder how many other small engines I’ve been checking incorrectly?

I did have the bike upright. After filling it and checking it again without screwing the dipstick in it took just under 1/2 qt to fill. Not quite the .6 qts than the manual recommends but much closer.

Are most screw in dipsticks designed to read without being screwed in or is this unique to my scooter?

I'm sure you have it right now. They typically take a little less for a oil change.
I think it's safe to say that most engines don't require you to screw it in. And that would be erring on the safe side. But it's probably a good idea to find out for sure on the machines that you own.

Not draining all the old oil out properly requires less oil to be re refilled. Be sure to fully warm up the bike to operating temp. Remove the drainplug and let it drain till it drips THEN lean the bike slowly, several times, over to the right side a good amount and back to straight. It is possible to get several more ounces out using this technique. Around the amount you can't add now. :LOL:Just witnessed a youtube ct70 expert screw the dipstick ALL THE WAY IN. to check the oil. Yea he got the thumbs down! For some reason youtube wouldn't let me comment.
