A couple bikes that are worth a look.

I don't know if Z50's are more popular, but a number of them brought much more than that at Mecum in Las Vegas. It may have more to do with the bidding platform.

Venue & timing are HUGE factors. This is probably the worst time of year, for a seller...a few weeks after the holidays, just as the last of those bills are coming due, just entering tax season. And consider the recent weather over much of the northern hemisphere. Doesn't exactly scream "warm weather collector toys" does it? IMO, that was a healthy bid for that bike. Green is a polarizing color. Consider the derivation of the term "resale red". Highest selling prices I've seen have been for a zero-mile HK1, in CRR and a K3 that was never assembled & still in the factory crate. Keep in mind that even as of this late date, ~$6K buys a top-flight restoration, with a choice of color. That said, another day, another venue and another buyer may be all it takes to get the reserve met...or not. Someplace out there is a hardcore CEG fan who wasn't aware of this specimen. If nothing else, resale values aren't going down.

I have yet to come across the assembly/set up instructions for 50's or 70's but they are out there. Every Honda has them. They show how everything is/was designed to fit together. Now just because that particular bike is out there that does not mean the instructions were followed to the letter. We will only know if and when those instructions are found. Better than nothing but far from the last word. Here are a few examples of the instructions- https://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-1988-Z50R-A-SET-UP-INSTRUCTIONS-Z50-R-Z-50-R-88/362391816375?_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIM.MBE&ao=2&asc=55992&meid=ca9acc264f924ee2a7233652f81729d2&pid=100005&rk=4&rkt=12&sd=352315422320&itm=362391816375&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 For example, the 5th picture shows the cable routing.
I have a theory that back in the day, particularly on the small bikes, you didn't have the shop mechanic taking bikes out of the crate and putting them together unless it was slow. You had him making money wrenching on customer bikes. You had the high school kid doing it after he was shown how to do it- no Honda instructions used.....

I knew I had seen one for a early CT70, but I couldn't find it, or remember the seller's handle. Spotted the seller today, then found the book.

Bike looks ''pretty good'' from the lousy pic. Tweaked bars. I see some re spray on the front rim as the valve stem is silver. Also a later version front axle and nut with a cotter pin thru it. My H has no holes and self locking nuts front and back. It seems it's not 100% original, but close.
I am also questioning how the plug guard is so shiny? There is rust on the exhaust shield lower mount. This is one bike you would need to see in person before bidding.

I noticed right off that it looks as if the rim hardware has been painted over too.

I watched a video yesterday on a Honda cl70 they were selling. In the video, the man talking said, the museum was liquidating some of the bikes from the museum.

I remember that Mecum auction one. I just figured that was rich dudes at a rich dudes auction, flexin their wallets. Lol

Ya this seller has been selling a lot of mini's. This one had a reserve set, and a high buy it now price...maybe it was 9600. I wasn't paying much attention, because I didn't expect it to sell.
Pretty not bad tho...9600 beans.

No idea who the seller is.

That is one ultra-rare JDM model, with all of the unobtainium pieces present and intact. Can't remember that last time I saw one of these come up for sale domestically.

This is the 2nd time they listed that bike. First time...I think there was a reserve set, and a buy it now of $2-2500...bargain price??
But I think it was advertised as a customized CT70..? I'm not sure tho. I don't remember the details that they put in the description this time. I just thought it was a cool custom CT.

Looks like it's getting some bids now!
$1711 as I type this.

I like the look. Problem with buying the genuine article is that it IS such a rare bike, you wouldn't want to mess with it too much. It's more a bike for a collector.
Better to build a roadworthy lookalike from a CT70 donor bike...with a roadworthy engine of course.
I just need one of them seats, and one of them there sissy bar racks, and one of thems shiny muffler guards...

Since a large majority of the links on this thread are from ebay, what advice would you give someone about making a purchase (winning bid) and arranging shipping? I think most people would just say to use Uship, but are there any red flags to look out for in a listing or a shipper?
