Blue 69 ct70 restore

Hey guys,,, my next restoration is going to be the blue 10/69 ct70 that I got in the $2400 shead find deal about 3 years ago..it had an electric start 12volt passport motor rigged in the frame…(see pics) I don’t think it ever ran with that motor for the fact that even with the under belly of the frame notched out there was still no room for the carb top but who knows..? At this point I have all the sub assembly’s together..the frame vin # is 125xxx I found a clean bottom end on eBay that has a vin that starts in 125 but is 733 digits off..I’m thinking that’s as close as I’ll ever find..I repaired the notched frame with pieces I cut off a bent up donor frame and fabed the pieces in..(see pics) ,then totally submerged the frame in liquid rust dissolver and sandblasted along with all the parts that got painted..the motor is built and the frame is painted in 3 stage PPG from marble motors (candy sapphire blue)… all painted parts are ready for assembly.. I’ll post more pics as assembly goes on..sorry pics are in no order…

Should turn out great as usual. At least the c70 motor was CDI. 😅
Yes..it’s for sale to anyone interested..I have the 12volt coil, cdi box,,intake manifold..it turns over and feels like it has good compression..kicker and shifter shafts have good splines..I’m thinking it was a running motor or someone wouldn’t have went through all the work they did trying to fab it in there?

Making some progress with assembly,, after the rust dissolver complete frame submerge it leaves bare metal in places you can’t get paint so I sprayed 3M rubberized under coating up in the main barrel of the frame to seal it up.. ( I taped around the key switch hole to insure a good ignition switch ground). I reinstalled the original vin tag,,,then installed the rebuilt rear shocks by scooter..the front fender is the original that I had rechromed,,new lower fork legs from chp with new bushing seals and boots an reflectors,,I rebuilt the original old style 69 horn with new paint,,gaskets and rezinked parts..i have new coil mounted and rezinked seat latch is installed…all original style bolts from chp and the ones I sent off that were rezinked..I know the color looks off in the pics but its just the light ,,next good sunny day I’ll try pics in natural light..I think in real sun light the pics will look more like the true color..next will be wiring and make it a roller..

Square tab is silvertag and early K0. The round tab came later. HK0 is round. Talk to Mark @ hondakeys.com
Yes this is a square tab that was on the bike..build date is 10/69 so I’m thinking they were still using the square tabs even though it’s not a silver tag…that's why I had it rechromed along with the front fender..the front fender doesn’t have the underside reinforcement but does have what looks to me like a rounder front profile…maybe it’s a optical illusion on my part? mark said he does not have a blank to cut..the key is an early odd ball..totally flat on one side grooves on other. If anyone has one out there with an H9960 code I’m a buyer..

Does anyone know for sure if the cables should be on the inside of the handle bars or on the outside? I’ve looked at different pics and I’m seeing them both ways? I’m thinking on the inside so there’s more cable when you fold the bars down…

Robert,
That bike came out great man you should be really proud of that one. I think it is so cool to see a bike that was rode hard and put up wet turned back into such a nice bike.

Awesome job man congrats.

I have never seen a key like that, but then I never owned a early K0. I think it depended on the kid prepping the bike at the dealer. I always install cables behind the bars for the exact reason you mentioned. Easier fold down ability. Plus the bike looks better.

Hey guys on my 1st post on this restoration thread I stated the vin numbers from motor to frame were 733 digits off (too many) an thats as close as I would ever find,,, well I was wrong,, this case half came up on ebay and I snatched it up.. only 12 digits off with no cracks or striped threads,,,What luck.

That's an awesome find! I smell an engine teardown in your future! Doh!!! Hopefully the gaskets haven't stuck to all the mating surfaces too bad, that will make for a much easier and cleaner case swap. I have a freshly restored k1 engine for a mismatched frame that I will be swapping all the guts over to a completely different, but numbers matching bike and cases in my future. Cool part is that bike is only 200 digits higher from my one bike, and 400 higher than my other.
