After waiting 4 months for my transmission to be repaired, my useless mechanic has managed to destroy a discontinued NOS gear I managed to locate for USD175! To add to insult I have already paid A LOT for the repair. After the first repair my partner took it for a spin in the back alley and there was a crunching of gears. He said he would take it apart over the weekend clearly he didn't and just adjusted the clutch as there was a loud thumping noise in first gear on attempt 2 to collect the bike. Six weeks later he has finally opened the engine and found the broken gear and said "he doesn't know how that happened". So now I need a replacement gear Number 23421-121-691/23421-121-692 GEAR, COUNTERSHAFT LOW (33T) I have contacted the shop where I purchased the one he has destroyed but have yet to hear back. Any leads would be greatly appreciated as we are at almost 6 months waiting for this bike to be fixed. Note my mechanic is paying for the repair now so cost isn't a problem.

I was thinking however, that there are other honda 90cc bikes made around that time and there are some parts that ARE used on different parts. When I looked at the transmission part, there is something very similar (the ST90 part is the one sitting on the paper). I know the teeth on the ST90 gear has flatter teeth but would it still work?

It does take alot more searching now days. In the mid 90's my local Honda/Harley dealer, who had been one of the very first Honda dealers in the area still had a basement full of parts.When I rebuilt my friends 73/74 CR 250 around then,that dealer had everything I needed in stock. He had passed on but his wife who ran the business with him still kept it going. But finally she sold everything off and closed as well. Those days are now gone forever. Used to have very good luck with Western Hills Honda,they had stuff I could not find anywhere. Word through the grape vine is that CMSL made them an offer he could not refuse and with them getting older it was a no brainier for them to sell. Good Luck on your quest
Hi Gary I've been searching for much of the day and haven't found anything sigh... I even talked to a machine shop that makes gears locally who said it would be a couple of thousand to make one but he could probably get the price down to $500 each if I did an order of 10. As my mechanic has refused to refund me, he may have no option unless he wants to pay for the gear to be made which would be more. Clearly his arrogance isn't doing him any favours and might cost him a pretty penny in the end.

Just talked to Ohiocycle and they only do parts for 1959-1969 for future reference. Who knew my bike could be too new?!
Hi Red69 I've pretty much exhausted my options now. All the old school parts people say Gary Lewis is my best bet but he's not answering his phone. Goggled the crap out of the internet to find this part. I work on computers so I'm pretty good at finding what I want. Might have to swap the engine for a Lifan if I can't get the part. Hopefully the mechanic will realise he needs to refund me even though he has said he won't unless of course he wants to buy me a new engine!
Probably not worth the effort and might damage other parts on the transmission. I think I'd rather get my money back for the "repair" or rather the lack there of as I've lost confidence in this guy now.

I checked my cross reference catalog and that gear is only used on the ST90. The -020 is the newer part number in the catalog. I checked my NOS stash and had a few 23421- counter shafts but not that one. Checked David silver spares and CMSNL and came up blank at the moment. But their stock does change with time

No - I bought some Software that identifies by bike every part on it and cross references a part number to every bike that it is used on. Think it has every early model up through maybe the mid 90s. Also describes when a part has been superseded. I picked it up years ago - has been a great reference.
I bought some gears from a dealer going out of business years ago. Nothing for the ST in my stash. Patience something will show up. I’ll keep a watch as well

Thanks for the tip Scooter. That software sounds like a pretty cool thing to have. Definitely faster than checking through all the exploded diagrams on CMSNL which I spent a few hours doing yesterday
Unfortunately I had already painstakingly found a NOS part in June only to have my mechanic destroy it I've also already been waiting 6 months since I dropped it off to him to be repaired so patience is something i am wearing thin on at the moment.
