Candy Sapphire Blue Paint Match

I'm restoring a 1973 Honda CL70. It's frame color is Candy Sapphire Blue. Looking for the best paint match out there in a rattle can. Any ideas? I found a Dupli-Color Product called "Metal Specks" Ocean Blue. Looks damn close , plus it has the silver candy apple look to it too. Just checking to see if anyone has seen a better match out there!

Find a painted piece thats been out of the sun and not faded and take it to an auto paint store. They can computer match it and make a minimum of 3 spray cans for around $25, at least out here they can. Metallic paint like that may cost more but will still be the best you will get for the money

Candy sapphire blue is a true candy color...a silver metallic base with a transparent blue "candy" color coat. There's no way to duplicate this finish with a single-stage metallic paint. It may look good in the paint store but the result will look dull next to the actual color. However, this may be good enough for your purposes. It's certainly a lot easier to apply than candy paint. Colorite is the only outfit that makes "factory match" paint in a rattlecan. You'll have to log-in or e-mail them as they've changed their website recently.

i have seen a real nice candy sapphire blue CT in person. a gentleman that needed some work done to get his bike running on this site!an amazing color that a picture doesnt capture like in person.i like it!

I found the same paint (Dupli-Color ). What I did was apply a metalic silver base cost then sprayed the blue as a top cost. It still is not as intense as the original but it works till I strip and paint.

It takes some time and $$, but you can also try different silver colors. I have four different cans of silver paint I have been trying as bases under a color coat. The brighter the silver, the more the color is going to *pop*. The one thing you must do is only spray a very, very, light color coat at a time and let it skin for at least an hour. All it takes is one too many coats of color, then you end up having to start all over with the process. Hoping to have the project finished by the weekend and will post results and pics.

Pics of Sapphire Blue KO project that I am restoring for a member here. This is one of Dons Vintage Honda Paint "kits". Sapphire Blue is a very very nice color!:8:
Didn't mean to Hijack this thread, just wanted to add some "COLOR" LOL

Reviving an old thread. Did you use the cans of the full paint kit for a regular paint gun? (presuming paint gun). I am just finishing my first ever restored and used the color rite cans from dratv and am disappointed in the outcome. While I wasn't expecting much...the color is far too green. Will be repainting this fall/winter.

I need to also tell everyone how awesome this site is! I don't post much but have been on here countless times researching at every turn...I am the furthest ting from a mechanic but have rode since I was six years old. Found an old ct70 and thought I'd "just fix her up a bit...". Uh oh....I officially have the bug!

Two other thoughts...Bjatwood...very cool thing you did for that young man down by Lincoln! I'm your neighbor from just up the road in Tekamah...love to visit with you some time...drive through Blair every day. Later.

Ugh...edit on my last post...iPad spell check/grammar check butchered my question. Was just trying to ask if you used the full paint kit or the cans. Were you happy with the results of the kit? OR would you take a different route now that time has passed? Thanks (again!) Matt

We here at Vintage CT70 Restorations carry the Sapphire Blue in a ChromaBase 2-stage 12 oz. aerosol. The color is near dead on the the OME as far as the metallic color and appearance. We will send a painted sample of the Sapphire Blue to those who make a request

I am looking for the candy electric yellow color on a 70 ct70
i think it is a rare color I don't see many like it.

Kirker's Electric Lime Candy matches well to 1972 candy yellow, but would have to be applied over a silver base with small metallic particles, i.e. Cloud Silver. Not sure if 1970 yellow is different.
