Clone to Honda conversion

I've had good luck with K0 tank decals from NEVC. As for sidebadges, choose your year & vendor. I don't recall which of the metal ones lack the offroad wording, other than the H-models. K2-K3-later were all vinyl.

I purchased some red lacquer ''Ford'' touch up paint in the tube that is a great match for the Duplicolor spray

That's something I like to pick up. Can you Share the paint info and where you got it.

I had to relocate the seat posts for the Honda frame, the clone frame is wider by an inch at the seat.

Also made this comparison. Gonna be bitter sweet saying goodbye to this tank.

It's been a week since I sent Vt the requested info and still no word.

What I need to learn is how these stickers get installed and which side is this one. It almost seems to be peel and stick. I got the set from NEVC. I was under the impression that I should spray windex on the frame, place the sticker and squeegee it dry and into place. Please help me understand how this works and what side this one goes on.

Another problem I am running into is the side badges. I have a sticker version. Got these from Beatrice. They are approximately 3 1/8 wide at the top and do seem to be the correct size for early versions. However, they seem too big for the 93 frame. The 93 frame looks like they should be 2 7/8. Maybe AdamNLV can verify that for me???. I May have another roadblock to overcome.

Looks like I won't need that verification after all. I just looked at some 93 bikes and they don't have side badges. Guess I need some custom ones made.

The one pictured is RIGHT.. taper goes towards the front of the bike.

Windex is right. Water with 2-3 drops of dishsoap works....2-3 drops only.

I did one side of my black and red bike with soap water, and the other side with no water at all. Had problems with both. AND I even have a little experience with this job.

With the spray... you spray the area, remove the backing of the sticker, lay the sticker in place lightly, then measure and move until it's in the right spot, then start squeegeeing the water out from under the sticker starting in the middle and pushing the water out toward the edges. You do this with the paper on the front of the sticker so each letter stays in place. You have to be sure to push it into the low spots as you work toward the outer edge.

Plastic putty knife with rounded corners works for the squeegee. When you think your done, squeegee it all one last time pressing kinda hard to be sure it's stuck well. Then carefully peel the tape off of the front.

The decals are cut on a angle top and bottom. That top angled cut should line up with the VERY top of the frame seam...without the chrome strip in place.

>>>the soap water allows the decal to slide around until you press it tight to the frame..

I'm am NO pro. Maybe look up some youtube vids.

I mocked up some of the bike to see how well things would fit. The kickstand and center stand were 1/2 inch too short. I also needed my air box mods done. Here they are back from the welder today. The cone air filter fits inside but when installed it will look close to stock and cut down on some of the induction noise the stand works well now.

I was working out of town last week but did see that my check to Vermont was cashed. When I got home today the plate was here :). It took 6 weeks, but it was my fault I had to fill in the blanks I missed and send back. I tried to put insurance on it but they said not today due to the hurricane :( Makes sense I suppose. Now its time to quit mocking it up and get it assembled. I am going to have a nice weekend...

Coming to a close with this, The side badges for a 93 are smaller than early models so I had to get some for a DAX, I found a version in aluminum that basically say Honda 70 with the wing logo, On their way from Thailand and could be a while. The rest is pretty much done. I am happy with the metalcast / 2K clear paint. it was crappy to learn about compatibility but its behind me now. Gotta thank RacerX and Kirrbby cause without their help this wouldn't have happened.

Finally got a look at your pics on the computer screen. Man it DOES look nice! You did a nice job with the paint, and the swap too. Great lookin machine. Tagged, insured, all legal like..? Good stuff.

Soo, there were no problems with that frame when you assembled the bike? Not crooked or anything I assume?

Thanks for the kind remarks, no it isn't legal yet my insurance company issued a moritorium on policies due to the hurricane and it cannot be added to the policy until that gets lifted, Monday or Tuesday is probably when it will be road legal. No 100 mile victory cruise for me just yet :45: As for the frame being torqued I don't see it??? It looks right and feels like it tracks correctly on my street, also goes straight without hands on the bars down my street. I think it is fine. I have seen images of another frame on the ground and they sit on the same angle, all parts went right on without complaining. I'm convinced all it well

Take it completely back apart and reassemble it.....just to make sure.lol

BTW, I just switched from StateFarm to progressive. Got approved, paid by checkcard, and then they emailed me proof of insurance to print off. I'd say get a 90day until your insurance company gets they're stupidity straight. Just a thought.

Now that it's an antique Honda, try Hagerty insurance. They'll do agreed value on a CT70, no appraisal necessary...just clear photos showing all four sides of the bike. And, being based in Traverse City, MI, hurricanes rarely affect their operation.:21:
