CT70 K2 Handle Bars????

Ok so I just ran into my first problem with my K2 build. I am using CHP K1-K3 handle bars which I used on my K1 build and they worked perfectly but on my K2 the ”ON/OFF & High Low“ switch gets in the way of the throttle twist assembly. My terminology might be wrong but I hav attached pics to help. My question is are the K2 bars longer or is the hole drilled on the wrong place on the bars that I am using? I as thinking about moving over and drilling a new mounting hole ( the switch will cover the old hole ) but I’m not sure I wanna do that if the problem isn’t that the hole is in the wrong place. Has anyone ran into this problem before? Does anyone know where to get correct K2 handle bars? Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Scooter, that helps me out a lot. The hole in mine is definitely in the wrong place! I think I’m gonna drill it 🤞and see how it turns out.

My “keeper screw“ is in the brake lever perch and it looks like yours is outside of it. It also looks like the brake lever perch is a little off set from the ones I have.

Not to complain but I totally don’t understand spending the money on tooling to make a part and not making it correct. “Close enough“ seems to be how it goes with some of these vendors. I have had the same kind of issue with mufflers.

This may help you as well. Here are a few pics I made some time ago for another member.

Thanks allenp42 that does help a lot, I am goin to attempt my “modifications“ on Saturday. I’ll definitely post my results.

Clayton I ran into the same problem and just moved the hole over. Like you said, old hole will be covered. I drilled pilot hole then a Milwaukee step bit. Just do your Best to drill in same line so switch is clocked right.

Thanks CLEC66, did you drill you hole on the other side ( the anchor screw hole ) outside of the brake lever arm perch?

There is no such thing as K1-K3 CT70 handle bars...
K0 bars are only correct for K0s.
K1 bars are only correct for K1s.
K2's same.
There are 2 different sets of bars that are only correct for K3s and depend on if you have a early model K3, or late.
There is one set of bars that is correct for K4 thru 78.
One set for 79.
I'm not sure if 80s bars are the same as 90s, but I THINK they're different.

That’s awesome info Kirrbby I knew there had to be a difference. I’m guessing since some of the switches on these later bikes are so hard to find that most just go with a K0/K1 setup? This is how mine ended up once I redrilled the mounting hole.

Howdy!

New member but have enjoyed reading this forum for some time.

Sourcing a pair of K2 handlebars is proving difficult for me.

I realize this thread is 5 years old but it may well still be applicable.

Does anyone know if a set of aftermarket bars exists, that will work with original K2/K3 switches, without modification?

Thanks! - T.C.
